An email announcement of availability of "The Ziff Davis Advanced Web Hosting Guide" claims that the guide will tell me who all the (significant?) Web Hosting Services are, and show me what the important differences are for each of them.
I'm not particularly interested in information of that sort, but suspected that it might be of some interest to some here.
The email included links to "More Information" and to "Advanced Hosting Comparison Guide."
The "More Information" link showed in the email as:
But the URL shown when I got there was:
(Both links worked in preview.)
The "More Information" page makes the claims about what's in the guide, and has a link to download the "Free Guide" but asks for Name, Company Name, Company Size, Industry, Phone Number, Zip Code, and email address, suggesting that you might get future ads or "offers" and I get sufficient of both, so I haven't downloaded the "guide;" but someone with sufficient interest might be willing to take the risks.
Ziff Davis is a publisher of several (mostly US) sometimes useful magazines, and offers many specialized email newsletters that might be of interest. The (mainly UK) alternate PC Advisor is similar, with, so far as I can see, similar reputation. I've found contacts with both to be "usually secure enough." ZD is a little more likely to push more of their newsletters than you might want, but anything you can't just ignore can be easily rejected.
The "more information" reads:
Download this free Advanced Hosting Comparison Guide to see who's doing what and how to take advantage.
Web hosting services are an excellent way of saving time and money on everything from hardware and infrastructure to management and support. However, there are still a lot of differences between each of the different web hosting solutions. In other words, all solutions are not created equal so it is imperative that you have the information you need before choosing a web hosting provider.
