Garnet Rogers will be at Stone Soup Coffeehouse in Pawtucket, RI, Saturday evening, November 10, 2012. Opening for Garnet is Allysen Callery who has a distinctive style. I don't need to tell you anything about Garnet's talent, but you may not know that he is especially beloved by Stone Soupers because he performed on the first Saturday night after 9/11/01, and his music that night was healing. Videos and ticket info are at http://www.soup.org/ . The music starts at 8. Pawtucket, RI, is between Providence, RI, and the MA state line, and Stone Soup is just a few blocks from Rt. 95's RI Exit 27.

I am a big fan of Garnet Rogers - but I have never seen him in concert. I don't think he gets out to California at all. I have looked at his tour schedule many times over the years but have never seen any concerts booked in Southern, California.
Not sure why he doesn't tour in this area but hope one day he will.
I know it is a long journey to tour from his home in Ontario, Canada though so perhaps that might have something to do with it.
Enjoy his CD's a lot!

He probably doesn't get to California because of his no-flying policy since his brother was killed in an airplane fire in 2003. Here in Toronto, we get to see him regularly. A wonderful artist.

I wrote 2003 in the above post, but I meant to say 1983.

To C. Ham:

Yes, I did know that his brother, Stan was killed aboard the Air Canada flight but I didn't know that Garnet had a no-fly policy but it is understandable of course.
I guess since he is driving to gigs - California would be too far from Toronto.
Maybe one day though he will be able to do a western states tour if it he had enough gigs to make it worth it to him.

I enjoyed the music. Allysen sang songs full of mystery and myths, legends, and fairy tales. Garnet was as good as ever, and I breathed a sigh of relief when the evening's host said that Garnet was doing all acoustic music last night. I think electric guitars have their place in folk music, but when Garnet uses them the sound often becomes painfully loud for me (I have a low threshold for noise) and I retreat to the stairwell or kitchen and listen from there. Last night I was able to stay in my seat. Between songs, Garnet told some amusing tales of things that have happened during his time at his home in Nova Scotia.

Garnet said that he and Archie Fisher may tour again, possibly doing two shorter tours rather than one long one. I hope I get to hear them.

Next up on November 24th Stone Soup will present Pete and Maura Kennedy preceded by a Hoot (open mic). If you want to participate, arrive early and sign up before all the slots are taken. Sometimes open mic performances have led to bookings!
