Subject: The Two Horses of Genghis Khan film From: Desert Dancer Date: 07 Nov 12 - 04:28 PM Ooo! Oo! Our local non-profit movie theater (Tucson is incredibly lucky!) is running their film festival this week/weekend, and it includes the latest movie from the maker of The Story of the Weeping Camel, called The Two Horses of Genghis Khan. More music, folklore, and modern rural life (culture clash) in Mongolia: Carrying out a promise she made to her family, noted Mongolian musician Urna Chahar-Tugchi seeks out a renowned instrument maker to repair the cherished violin her grandmother was forced to smash during China's Cultural Revolution. Urna then sets out on a revelatory journey through Mongolia to recover the missing verses of "The Two Horses of Genghis Khan," an ancient song inscribed on the violin's neck. Byambasuren Davaa (The Story of the Weeping Camel, The Cave of the Yellow Dog) directs this documentary. My link is to the Loft's page. There's a YouTube trailer embedded there. (Now that I've been switched off Paxil, I am again capable of getting teary-eyed within the first 30 seconds of a trailer...) And just FYI, Byambasuren Davaa is a young Mongolian woman. More info: National Geographic's All Roads Film Project blog page about the film the full movie on YouTube, NOT subtitled the song as performed by Urna Chahar Tughchi, excerpted from the movie (I guess) ~ Becky in Tucson (yay for being in the right city at the right time!! for this film, at least, the rest of the festival overlaps with going out of town for contra dance camp. :-\ ) |
