Subject: RE: Samuel James, young blues star in London From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 15 Nov 12 - 09:09 AM thanks R. Sadly he's only here for the weekend. I just happened to notice that he was playing a blues festival in Paris and enquired if he might want to slip in a London gig while he was at it. Bought him a Eurostar ticket. I wanted to get him a Sunday gig as well somewhere convenient from London (eg Brighton or Oxford or - yes - Ascot) , but it was all too last minute. As it is I've no idea what turnout will be like - he's really good, and on his third album now, but not many people have heard of him over here. |

Subject: Samuel James, young blues star in London From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 15 Nov 12 - 05:43 AM I'm organizing a gig this Saturday 17 November, from Samuel James. Sam is from Portland, Oregon, and is over in Europe promoting his new album "And For The Dark Road Ahead". One of the best acoustic bluesmen out there right now, and one of frankly not very many young black americans playing the blues. He plays charming mellow fingerstyle on a classical guitar but also raucous slide on a resonator, and frails a mean banjo too! Ranges from Missippi John Hurt lyrical playing to fiery Fred McDowell slidin n stompin. Has been described as "like Wu Tang paying Robert Johnson". He's excellent. Don't take my word for it. Listen to him here: http://samueljames.bandcamp.com/album/for-rosa-maeve-and-noreen and check him out on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/sugarsmallhouse |
