Bit of Allmshire spirit is what is needed..

Good luck shinaid

dont know if this elps but -

the bacca pipes club - Keithley - produced a CD of Yorkie carols some years ago, a useful reference

also

Jon Mcnamara at the Stortfolk club - bishop's stortford Thursdays - has for years built up a tradition of wassailling in his part of the world.

sounds like a great seasonal project

In our village we started going round ;ast year with a repertoire of traditional recognisable carols and we plan to venture out again this year, a date has been set !

Bah Humbug. I wont go anywhere NEAR carols, but shooting and apple tree worrying are OK.
Just how many apple trees can you get on an open stage?
Count me out.

Hi
It is really good to hear of a young person thinking of organising an event. You might consider us as a bit over the top when it comes to age compared to you, but if you need a hand to get things going then let us know. I think we might have heard you in the Barge pub in Gillingham which we have also played at.
We are based in the Walderslade area north of Maidstone and do a few paid ' folk and carol ' events coming up to Christmas. Next Saturday is the first at Fawkham church. As a band we play, sing and call dances.
The songs we do are the lightweight carols and a few christmas songs. ( Boars head, we wish you a merry xmas etc ). We have booklets with these printed out. ( we find everybody knows verse one but not verse 2).
On Friday we were enthusing with another member of the Rainham folk club about the Sheffield carols that he was going to.

We would be interested to know what your plans are. I'll email you our e mail adress seperately.
FloraG.

Hi there...

I'm looking for some Kent based folk enthusiasts/performers to help me with a project based around Maidstone. Some of you may know me... 20 year old girl, 'sings' unaccompanied, usually accompanied by Wheeler Street or Sam Sweeney.

I spent a year or so living in Sheffield and completely fell in love with their caroling tradition. Whilst it's impossible to "move" the tradition, we can make on of our own, or renew an interest in an old one.

The plan was to have 4 "wassailing" sessions in December, with a final Christmas gig right at the end, with a well known band. Unfortunately this year the band is fully booked and I will be working right up until the 19th of December, so it's a bit late to organise what I had in mind.

So for this year, I was hoping to hold a one off event with some caroling, some tunes and some local musicians on an open stage (singing traditional Christmas carols). If anyone would be interested in helping me out with this event, either buy volunteering for the open stage, or just handing out some leaflets in their area, please let me know.

For anyone who is interested in helping me out with next year, again, let me know! Plans for next year are quite big, so I will need some support with some little odd jobs and just general interest.

Please note I am not interested in people who think that this shouldn't/can't be done, because I am doing it, and thus I'm only interested in those people who are also interested in the idea!

My email is SineadTess@hotmail.com

Also, if anyone has any information on the carols that were sung/originate/were collected in Kent, please do let me know!

Many thanks and a Merry Christmas! (Okay, you can slap me, it's not even December...)

Sinéad. x
