I heard the 2 CDs and the sound is superb, to say nothing of the playing!

i heard one track on planet rock.i reckon they still sound good.mind you it has been said that they are rip off merchants on the backs of old bluesmen-but i suspect that applies to folk too.

Not just old bluesmen, Page lifted "I'm Confused" from The Yardbirds, his old band. He also borrowed the Violin Bow routine (that he used during "Dazed & Confused") from another British artist.

and Stairway to Heaven's guitar intro was lifted from "Taurus" by Spirit, a band they opened for in 1969.

Zeppelin in their heyday was, first and foremost, a live band. Their albums were good, but their live shows were visceral experiences.

I don't disagree with any of the negatives expressed in this thread, but if you put all that on one side of a scale and put the experience of having seen them live in their prime on the other side, the band wins hands down.

Excuse my ignorance but what IS the new release? I noted the advert in Record Collector but it didn't say what exactly it is - I assumed it was yet another compilation - is it not?

This CD / DVD is the 'one off' reunion gig from 5 years ago.

Bee-dubya, I didn't voice a negative, it's a fact. Listen to the song that predates, which is Taurus, and the later song, Stairway. It's simply a fact. I'm a Zeppelin fan, in fact. But in the borrowing and copyrighting areas, they have played fast and loose.

Anorak alert. The guitarist who played with a violin bow was probably Eddie Phillips of The Creation.

The Creation were less than memorable, saw them once which was enough.

I should think that many a guitarist borrowed from Jimmy Page in the 60s, he had filled in for the useless ones on many a recording session!!!

Never stood a chance of a ticket, so got this and was overwhelmed with nostalgia and goose pimples. Saw them at Knebworth, so at least I managed it.

Jimmy Page was speaking (not playing, sadly) on Jools Holland last week, promoting it. I bought it the next day.

Obviously, no Bozo (though didn't his lad do well?) but the other three have just about survived the years and can still pack 'em in, and reward them with good musicianship / singing. (Are you listening Dylan, McCartney?)
