Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Musket Date: 20 Nov 12 - 06:04 AM Never stood a chance of a ticket, so got this and was overwhelmed with nostalgia and goose pimples. Saw them at Knebworth, so at least I managed it. Jimmy Page was speaking (not playing, sadly) on Jools Holland last week, promoting it. I bought it the next day. Obviously, no Bozo (though didn't his lad do well?) but the other three have just about survived the years and can still pack 'em in, and reward them with good musicianship / singing. (Are you listening Dylan, McCartney?) |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: nboldock Date: 20 Nov 12 - 05:36 AM "This CD / DVD is the 'one off' reunion gig from 5 years ago. " A-ha! I see... thanks. |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Henry Krinkle Date: 19 Nov 12 - 02:29 PM I saw them live in 73. No brag. Just fact. =(:-( )) |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Bonzo3legs Date: 19 Nov 12 - 02:09 PM The Creation were less than memorable, saw them once which was enough. I should think that many a guitarist borrowed from Jimmy Page in the 60s, he had filled in for the useless ones on many a recording session!!! |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: fat B****rd Date: 19 Nov 12 - 01:28 PM Anorak alert. The guitarist who played with a violin bow was probably Eddie Phillips of The Creation. |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 19 Nov 12 - 11:02 AM Bee-dubya, I didn't voice a negative, it's a fact. Listen to the song that predates, which is Taurus, and the later song, Stairway. It's simply a fact. I'm a Zeppelin fan, in fact. But in the borrowing and copyrighting areas, they have played fast and loose. |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: GUEST Date: 19 Nov 12 - 10:28 AM This CD / DVD is the 'one off' reunion gig from 5 years ago. |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: nboldock Date: 19 Nov 12 - 09:49 AM Excuse my ignorance but what IS the new release? I noted the advert in Record Collector but it didn't say what exactly it is - I assumed it was yet another compilation - is it not? |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 19 Nov 12 - 09:45 AM Zeppelin in their heyday was, first and foremost, a live band. Their albums were good, but their live shows were visceral experiences. I don't disagree with any of the negatives expressed in this thread, but if you put all that on one side of a scale and put the experience of having seen them live in their prime on the other side, the band wins hands down. |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Henry Krinkle Date: 18 Nov 12 - 09:23 PM Thieves. And so overproduced and overrated. =(:-( P) |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 18 Nov 12 - 09:10 PM and Stairway to Heaven's guitar intro was lifted from "Taurus" by Spirit, a band they opened for in 1969. |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: GUEST,Walter Five Date: 18 Nov 12 - 08:39 PM Not just old bluesmen, Page lifted "I'm Confused" from The Yardbirds, his old band. He also borrowed the Violin Bow routine (that he used during "Dazed & Confused") from another British artist. |
Subject: RE: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: GUEST,pete from seven stars link Date: 18 Nov 12 - 05:53 PM i heard one track on planet rock.i reckon they still sound good.mind you it has been said that they are rip off merchants on the backs of old bluesmen-but i suspect that applies to folk too. |
Subject: Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day! From: Bonzo3legs Date: 18 Nov 12 - 04:47 AM I heard the 2 CDs and the sound is superb, to say nothing of the playing! |
