Following a Steve Goodman enquiry, I wondered if anyone has the words to the song in the title. (Oh what a misspent youth I had!)

Tim Pinton used to sing this at the Fleet Folk Club in the 1970/80s. It was blues, and I'm sure he told me it was Steve Goodman, but I could be wrong.

The chorus went something like:

I'm Going to Shoot Me a Milkman
with his voice as soft as solk,
I'm Going to Shoot Me a Milkman,
stole my woman and forgot my milk!

I think this is "Milkman" written sung by John Bryant.

Just had a listen to the record, is it that what you mean?

MILKMAN (John Bryant)

Well I got home just yesterday
Found this note pinned to my bed
It said I've spent your money, friend
And I've smoked all your cigarettes

Now when I knocked
your door was answered by pretty eyes of blue
And I must admit I liked the look of it
So I took your woman too

I thank you friend, this letter said
And I got to complement your taste
I found your Rye and I drank it dry
It was too damned good to waste

Now when I knocked I said
good morning like milkmen always do
And a voice replied Honey come inside
So I tried your woman too

Well I'm going to shoot me a milkman
With his voice as smooth as silk
I'm going to shoot me a milkman
Took my woman and forgot my milk

Now I don't mind if he keeps my wine
And my woman don't come back
But I'll shoot that bum if my milk don't come
I could never take my coffee black

Well I'm going to shoot me a milkman
With his voice as smooth as silk
I'm going to shoot me a milkman
Took my woman and forgot my milk

... er, yes. Sort of ...

I'm sure Tim sang a line which said 'gonna slit my woman's throat' but I could be mixing this up with something else he sang (possibly 'Send Me to the Electric Chair')

Methinks I could try Keith 'Pix' Calton who might have accompanied him before Tim's muscular dystrophy got too much of a stranglehold.
Also, I can't recall whether the 'shoot me a milkman' was sang as a chorus, or only the twice suggested aboyve.

Memories, eh?

A little boy went with his Father to a horse auction. He watched his Dad examine a horse by feeling it up and down, running his hands all over the animals muscles and joints. Then the boy asked his Dad why he did that and his Dad said, "I want to buy that horse and I need to find out if it is in good physical condition." Boy says, "Oh, so thats what the milkman was up to the other day, he wants to buy Mom."

You had to see this coming.

I did used to sing the song. The throat slitting words were from 'lectric chair.
No muscular dystrophy stranglehold ,fortunately. Although I do not play guitar anymore I do still work fulltime, the joys of the accountancy profession. The song came from John Bryant, he played at the Fleet Folk Club a few times in the 1970s. Other good songs on his album.
Memories? Folk evenings we started at Farnborough Grammar School (in 1967?)great experience. George Frampton was there, probably in short trousers at the time.

I vaguely recall from Loughborough days that there was a strong suggestion that the killing was justifiable.
