Subject: Mudcat Awards Nominations From: selby Date: 23 Nov 12 - 08:27 AM This was suggested on the Radio 2 award thread so here goes. The Mudcat Awards you can nominate in the following sections. FOLK SINGER OF THE YEAR BEST DUO BEST GROUP BEST ALBUM MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR BBC RADIO 2 YOUNG FOLK AWARD BEST TRADITIONAL TRACK BEST ORIGINAL SONG Rules (there has always got to be some) Nominate who you want from the Folk Music genre Nominates closes on 7 Dec 2012 The 4 most popular nominations will move on to the voting list I will then produce a voting thread Voting will then close on 14 Dec 2012 For better or worse my decision for 2012 is final!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: gnu Date: 24 Nov 12 - 05:16 PM I don't think you'll get any response in this here Café. Most folks just don't like "awards". Now, if there were other categories, in the BS section, of course, like say, "Most Reactionary Mudcatter" likely to go apeshit when someone messes with him or his firends and go after yer ass or similar, ya might have something. I have a nominee in mind for that one. >;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: Lonesome EJ Date: 24 Nov 12 - 06:36 PM I think he's talking about us not nominating other Mudcat Members, but Folk and Traditional performers in general. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: Artful Codger Date: 24 Nov 12 - 09:49 PM But only, apparently, "recording artists". |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: Beer Date: 24 Nov 12 - 10:32 PM Lonesome i am also a little confused on this. selby, how about a little further explanation. Adrien |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: gnu Date: 24 Nov 12 - 10:59 PM LEJ... I still don't think that matters. Most Mudcatters that I know just don't like "awards" stuff. It's nice to be recognized, of course, but... well, that discussion could go on - yet again - forever. Sorry. I shouldn't have posted at all. My bad. Have fun. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 25 Nov 12 - 08:25 AM How about just going for one thing at a time eg Most welcoming pub I would nominate The Good Intent in Rochester this year. It gives itself to the folk group most Tuesdays, and some weekends and the Rochester sweeps. It puts up a marque for the sweeps where even more music goes on, and there is usually some food supplied to performers and audience on the folk nights. Florag |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: selby Date: 25 Nov 12 - 10:25 AM There was on the BBC radio 2 awards, discussion over who had not been awarded, I used the format of the BBC to see who we would nominate etc. Hindsight being a wonderful thing quite clearly a bad idea. Therefore I consider this thread closed Keith |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: JHW Date: 26 Nov 12 - 07:04 AM I don't think labelling anyone as 'award-winning' is helpful. I've often had to advise non-folkies that the 'Radio 2 Folk Awards' are exactly that (what you might expect from an Easy Listening radio station) and are not 'THE Folk Awards'. There are of course competitive festivals where you can win an award for your performance. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: Splott Man Date: 27 Nov 12 - 04:01 AM Mudcat awards have been well received in previous years. If you don't like the game then don't play. I suggest you keep going with this, Selby. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Awards From: gnu Date: 27 Nov 12 - 07:47 AM Splott... I filtered "Mudcat Awards" and got nothing. Kinda odd since this thread exists??? Anyway, I'd love to see an example. Maybe I was hasty in my assumptions. Yeah, yeah... I know. >;-) |
