Subject: Obit: Maggie Cruickshank RIP From: GUEST,Isla sinclair Date: 29 Nov 12 - 01:58 PM Sorry to inform all folk music lovers, Maggie Cruickshank died last night having suffered a stroke at her nursing home here in Edinburgh. Maggie was a long-time 'folkie' who frequently appeared at all the local folk clubs - and many more - over many years. A CD of her and her late sister Liz was released recently and Edinburgh FC is currently organising the continuation of the tradition Maggie started many years ago of an annual January concert in The Pleasance raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. isla |

Subject: RE: Obit: Maggie Cruickshank RIP From: Dave Sutherland Date: 29 Nov 12 - 02:44 PM Very sorry indeed to hear this news; Maggie was always a welcome singer at South Tyne Folk & Blues when she would come down to visit Liz and John who were living in South Shields at the time. She would also regularly send us copies of The Sandy Bell's Newsletter. RIP Maggie. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Maggie Cruickshank RIP From: DebC Date: 29 Nov 12 - 03:22 PM I first met Maggie in the Royal Oak about 17 years ago. It was my first time in Edinburgh and the friend I was with went over to Maggie and had a quite word with her. Next I knew she was asking me to sing! Subject: RE: Obit: Maggie Cruickshank RIP From: GUEST,Lena & John James Date: 30 Nov 12 - 09:16 AM We were greatly saddened to hear about dear Maggie's death. Having grown up alongside Maggie and Liz, a few doors apart, our families were intertwined in many ways. Liz and I were very close through Sunday School upwards, and both primary, secondary schools. Maggie was a few years older than myself and she and my sisters were as close as I was with Liz. It was Maggie that introduced Liz and I to The Howff, the legendary Edinburgh folk club, at which our love of folk music began and has stayed with us always.. Since Liz died, Maggie continued her constant love and support of the music and the people involved, if ever I wanted any info on anybody on the scene I only had to ask Maggie. Max, Maggie's brother and his wife, Pat, have been a great support and help since Maggie took ill, and Liz's boys, David and Martin , were looked after with all the love Maggie could give. We will miss Maggie greatly but will remember the fun, laughs and good times always. Our condolences go to Max, Pat, David and Martin. Lena and John James. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Maggie Cruickshank RIP From: Vic Smith Date: 01 Dec 12 - 10:51 AM Very fond memories of being in Maggie's company (and Liz's for that matter) at Scottish festivals and Edinburgh folk clubs in the '60s and '70s. Didn't Maggie & Liz's brother run the Edinburgh Police folk club? |

Subject: RE: Obit: Maggie Cruickshank RIP From: Johnny J Date: 01 Dec 12 - 11:27 AM "Didn't Maggie & Liz's brother run the Edinburgh Police folk club?" Maggie and Liz were regulars at The Police Folk Club but this was run by Ian Green(Now greentrax records). They did indeed have a brother Ian who sadly passed away in 1985. He was also a "weel kent" face on the local scene and known mainly for his "moothie" playing although I do recall him singing too. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Maggie Cruickshank RIP From: GUEST Date: 02 Dec 12 - 02:33 PM I am very sorry to hear that Maggie is no longer with us. I first met her in the early days at the Police Folk Club more than 35 years ago. She was always an inspiration to me and many other young singers. I also had the pleasure to have been invited to play at her annual fundraising concert a couple of times and admire her dedication and kindness. RIP Audrey Williams |
