Anyone? I know Alice knows this. I've heard the song and I can sort of remember the tune, so if you can even jog my memory for me by saying, " sounds like ______ " that would help. I'd love to sing it to a bunch of kids tomorrow (SAT!) so, faster is better.

Oh, and I'll settle for anything in the family like the one Joe Offer knows about the Old Woman with the Cat. The song must get quieter and quieter, and then have a scream in it , unexpectedly. THAT family.

My mother used to sing this song to us all the time. It was almost a chat with the "oooh ooooh" chorus all drawn out.

She was especially effective when she would let down her long black hair and dress up as a witch.

And it alwyas scare the bee-jesus out of uw evn though we knew it was coming. I finally found the words in a song book, but can't remember which one now.

Barbara- I don't know how to enter a midi here in time for you to get it so I'll just post notes after the following words (S. & C Paton do a different version than mine and it's on one of their kid tapes.)

I faked something together last night, and sang it to the teens in the dark. They were all "Right, duh, another boring folksong, so we have to humor the old farts, *sigh*"
Each verse I got quieter,(tho I was afraid I'd lose 'em if I got slower -- they were all pretty hyper) and the room got quieter, and you could here the wind outside, and the penultumate verse I was whispering. (I sang the one in the database, Lady of Skin and Bone) And then I screamed and you should have seen those kids jump.
Hee hee hee.
Then they went down to the bonfire and the haunted barn (with the ankle grabber and the spagetti pit tunnel) Sleep well, kiddies.

I'm so glad it worked! I was on my bed of pain (flu- ugh- still feel wobbly) yesterday and couldn't check in to see how it went. I sang Old Lady all Skin and Bones at Pub last night. My version is from a book called, "American Folk Tales and Songs" compiled by Richard Chase (who actually came to my class years ago) It is a Signet Key book and was published August 1956. My copy all tattered and torn is a paper back but I would love to get a fresher copy. If you want my words let me know.

There's a bunch of ways to transmit a tune or singing.It depends on how familiar you are with computers and how much computer power you have. Do a Forum search for the thread with the word 'Mediaring' in the title, or a websearch for the name. They have software that allows you to send voice mail.
If you can do tunes on your computer, Alan of Australia just posted a webpage where we can send them to hear them; or you can learn how to use his program that turns MIDIs into numbers here at Mudcat, and then back into tunes on someone else's computer.
If you've joined Mudcat (doesn't cost anything) you can send private messages to members. Thats a good way to exchange email addys and addresses and other personal information.
You know, though,I probably won't sing it again till next Halloween, so don't sweat it.
