Subject: RE: Thomas McCarthy in Glasgow 16th December From: Fergie Date: 11 Dec 12 - 08:09 PM Thomas is the real deal. He carrys a tradition that is as authentic as the hum of the bee or the screech of the hawk. Wish I could be there to share the experience. Fergus |

Subject: RE: Thomas McCarthy in Glasgow 16th December From: Anne Neilson Date: 07 Dec 12 - 04:16 PM And I'm delighted to say that Thomas will also be presenting a (non-public) master class for the students on the Scottish traditional music course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - a rare opportunity for them to hear someone whose music came to him with mother's milk (as it were). |

Subject: Thomas McCarthy in Glasgow 16th December From: Anne Neilson Date: 05 Dec 12 - 03:40 PM The Glasgow Ballad Workshop is delighted to announce a special guest event in Avant Garde bar, King Street, Glasgow on Sunday 16/12/12 -- doors open at noon for a 1pm start. Prices are £6/£4 conc. Our guest Thomas McCarthy currently lives in London, where he was surprised to find that there was an audience for his repertoire of songs from the Irish traveller tradition. He has inherited all the particulars of travellers' style and his use of decoration is very much in the sean nos tradition. This is a special opportunity to hear a singer whose songs were all transmitted orally -- but advance booking would be sensible! Anyone interested, please email me on -- neilsonanne@ymail.com -- and I'll put you on the door list, as numbers are restricted. |
