First Friday Folk & Roots Club at the Tom Thumb Theatre, Eastern Esplanade, Margate CT9 2LB is very please to present Wizz Jones in concert on Friday 7th December.

Tickets £10 available from WeGotTickets or by calling the theatre on 01843 221791.

The evening is hosted by Sally Ironmonger, with licensed bar and fabulous raffle.

This is also the 1st anniversary of the club, and there may even be a birthday cake!

"Wizz Jones ought to be regarded as some sort of national treasure, though I doubt the notion would appeal to him much. He comes across as a self-effacing musician with an ego in inverse proportion to his ability. There are people around, though, who revere him and they're right to do so. Wizz belongs to the folk/blues posse of now elder statesmen who've been around since the beginning of the beginning. They picked up on this music in the 50s, as very young men and they made a life of it that goes on now. The gang leaders are Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Davey Graham and Wizz. Wizz has probably been the least generally known of them but people in the know speak of him in hushed tones and the other gang members tip their hats to him. He's at least their equal in all but recognition." Review by Mark Harrison from "Blues In London" (www.bluesinlondon.com)

If only I could get there. Wizz has been a hero of mine since the early 60's.

Unfortunately I've got a gig with the "Fo'c'sle Firkins" at the Hills Folk Club in Lesmurdie, Western Australia on that night!

Luv Ya WIZZ!!

Cheers

Bugsy

Bugsy - it was a brilliant evening. Wizz was mesmerising and he showed a wonderful combination of brilliance and humility, which you don't see very often.
Keep an eye on the club website and there should soon be links to come video footage of the evening.
