Subject: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: GUEST,Peter Date: 08 Dec 12 - 11:12 PM What are your favorite radio shows? I'm trying to find good ones to listen to. I thought David Johansen played great stuff but he's on Sirius, same with Dylan. Any favorite DJs? Could be a classic radio show or something that's on now. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: Beer Date: 08 Dec 12 - 11:25 PM I have no idea where you are from Peter but this is one on the best in my opinion tha Canada has to offer. Others may think differently and that is O.K. Adrien http://www.cbc.ca/vinyltap/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: Henry Krinkle Date: 09 Dec 12 - 02:04 AM I listen to college and community radio stations. You might find things to like at WRFG, WREK, or WRAS. =(:-( )) |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: ChanteyLass Date: 09 Dec 12 - 04:10 PM I am also a fan of Brian O'Donovan's Celtic Sojourn on WGBH Boston, Saturdays 3-6 PM. In addition, I like Tim Larkin's Celtic Stew on WUMD (UMass-Dartmouth), Sundays 1-3 PM. And I listen regularly to the programs below. Weeknights on WRIU (University of RI) from 6-9 PM, the lineup is Monday: : Traditions with Chuck Wentworth Tuesday: Kingston Coffeehouse with Jane Falvey Wednesday: The Celtic Realm with Laura Travis Thursday: The Boudin Barndance with Dan Ferguson Friday: The Bluegrass Breakdown with Mike Fischman I am pleased to add that Jane Falvey, who hosts Tuesdays broadcasts, is a personal friend and has been actively involved with Stone Soup Coffeehouse for many years. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: gnu Date: 09 Dec 12 - 04:45 PM Odd that this thread should come up. Coincidence? >;-) I had intended that I would post to the Brubeck thread tonight because CBC reaired an interview with him today on Sunday dition and I can access it on the CBC website. My intention was to ask if other's, Yanks, Brits, could get it in their country. My CBC fav is The Vinyl Café. Then ya got This Is That, The Debators, Laugh Out Loud, and The Irrelevant Show... all comedys. The last one is not in season but it's great! Beer... you catch The Vinyl Café this week? I recorded the Brubeck interview and The Vinyl Café today and have it on a wmv file. I don't believe I would be violating cw by sending this file to anyone who wants it for the simple reason that I would only ever do it once and it might promote CBC radio wherever it goes. And, like I said, at least in Canuckistan, one can access the Brubeck interview by internut. Anybody who wants it can have it. Oh, yeah, as far as cw, I suppose I own it because I pay their salaries. >;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: gnu Date: 09 Dec 12 - 05:08 PM Thanks, John. I will definitely check that out. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: Beer Date: 09 Dec 12 - 05:16 PM I usually listen to the Vinyl café but today my grand son was playing hockey so I missed it. I spoke to the producers about 4 months ago in having the show come to Ormstown because we are celebrating the war of 1812 next summer (the battle which was fought on the grounds where I live took place 1813.). Anyway, they are solidly booked for the next two years and not taking anything else on for a while. ad. |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 11 Dec 12 - 12:52 AM More a station than a show but K-LEE Radio carries the best of Maritime Celtic music to be found: K-LEE |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: open mike Date: 11 Dec 12 - 04:35 AM well, this may not be objective, but my favorite show is the one I do! Favorite because i enjoy researching the tunes and songs and bands, and I choose a theme and dedicate 2 hours of music to it...and this is unique as far as i can tell. the last 2 shows are available to listen to on our radio's website www.orovilleradio.org. october's was on apples and ghosts, and november's featured songs about food and drink for thanksgiving. I will be doing another show on Dec. 22 with a Christmas theme. The Crossroads show has been on the air for nearly a decade. I also have enjoyed listeneing to teh Good Old Fashioned Folk Music show on KCHO, but, alas it no longer is on. The other show I like is American Pastimes on KZFR. All of the Programmers from all 3 shows are board members of the Butte Folk Music Society. my show airs on the 4th saturday from 1-3 pm paciic time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 11 Dec 12 - 04:38 AM One of my favourites too, Dave. Mornington Crescent! Ha! It took me a while (I'm so dim) to work out that one. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: David C. Carter Date: 11 Dec 12 - 05:29 AM Eliza,I don't know if you saw it,but we played Mornington Crescent on the Mudcat a few years back.Maybe you can find the thread, just to see the comments. Good luck David |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: Bill D Date: 11 Dec 12 - 10:54 AM I have just been listening to K-LEE, and while I hear some nice stuff, I do feel that they emphasize 'fusion' music... doing traditional songs with bouncy, fast tunes...often with drums and electric effects. Right now I am hearing "Athen Rye" (tsk)...doing -Paddy Lay Back faster than any chanty crew would ever try! (and playing fast & loose with the melody.) A little while ago, I heard Beth Patterson singing.... and it was ½ way thru before I realized she was singing "Ye Jacobites By Name". Yes... I know that young "carriers of the tradition" tend to carry it in odd bags. Some have told me that their peers get bored with those old 'trad' versions. I can only shrug. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 11 Dec 12 - 11:33 AM My favourite all time was on Radio London around christmas/new year 1979/1980, and it was called something like 10 out of 10. The programme played 10 songs/tunes from each year of the decade - one of the song choices was Rising for the Moon, and that turned me on to folk music. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 11 Dec 12 - 11:58 AM Dave, have just read through the 2009 Mornington Crescent thread. Have never laughed so much for ages. Thank you for that! |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Radio Shows? From: David C. Carter Date: 11 Dec 12 - 12:43 PM Eliza, good for you. I might just read it again meself! David |
