Here's a first go at the lyrics from the youtube recording of Fiddlin' John Carson. There are a few jumps in the recording and I haven't time to sort them out at the moment (I'm about to go out), but I think most of the song is there.

Mick

THE GRAVE OF LITTLE MARY PHAGAN

Here I'm always light-heart
This world have I
I know I'm loved by a daisie?
That I couldn't forgive if I tried.
She sleeps far away in the mountain
While the old bird sings in the trees
Little grave that's covered in iv'ry (a realization of 'ivy' I imagine - MCP)
Our loved one lie waiting for thee

<jump>

The grave that's in ?May eleven?
An' it is not far away
The grave that's in ?May eleven?
Her soul with the angels will stay
Only here with with her mother
How happy that poor soul would be
She sleeps now in the little graveyard
While the little bird sings in the tree

<jump>

Little Mary was just fourteen
She's pretty as a queen
Her hair was dark and curling
The sweetest child ever was seen
Then only here with her mother
How happy that poor soul would be
<jump>
She sleeps now in the little graveyard
While the little bird sings in the tree

The day she left her dear mother
<jump> town ever forget
The morning she walked though the carline?
I fancy I see her there yet
If she were only here with her mother
How happy that poor soul would be
She sleeps now in the little graveyard
While the little bird sings in the tree.

Incidentally there's a pdf book here: The Murder of Little Mary Phagan (300+pp, 2 facing, 15.4 Mb). It says that Fiddlin' John Carson was singing The Ballad of Mary Phagan (not The Grave ... song) outside the courthouse at the end of the day (I don't know if that's mythical or not) and gives the words for that song.
