Subject: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: Bobert Date: 12 Dec 12 - 04:09 PM Well, if anyone is wonderin' where the heck I been I been right where I usually am when I'm checkin' ya'll out but my 'pudder in the pudder hospital and will be at least one more day before it gets out... Not sure how or why it happened but the sumabick crashed last Thursday... Heck, I was mindin' my own business... You know... Nothin' too kinky with it and next thing ya know it didn't wnat to do squat so... ...usually when it don't want to do no squat I go to the Contro' Panel and click on the "Won't do squat" box and it fixes everything... Not this time... Fried lice... Broke... Messed the f up... Good news is that the pudderd doc was able to find most all the stuff that wouoldf have been a pain in the butt to replace or re-rememeber and so... ...he says it can come home tomorrow... It could have come home today but it needed XP put on and Vista taken off... That's my "Everything in broken" update... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: Bat Goddess Date: 12 Dec 12 - 05:54 PM Isn't Microsloth about to stop supporting XP? They actually went longer than usual supporting an "obsolete" OS because Windows 7 was such a piece of sh...doggie doo. Linn |
Subject: RE: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: Jeri Date: 12 Dec 12 - 06:10 PM Linn, you mean Vista, I think. I haven't had a problem with that, nor Win7. XP is no longer supported, so it's weird anybody "in the know" would put it back on a computer. XP crashed way more than Vista for me, but whattheheck... |

Subject: RE: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: JohnInKansas Date: 12 Dec 12 - 08:47 PM Windows XP is fully supported until some time next year (Officially, April 8, 2014). Plans, according to best reports, are that they will release a final SP update that rolls up all of the prior patches as a last gasp before terminating. If they treat WinXP like prior versions, they probably will continue to provide CRITICAL updates for a while after that, but won't continue to patch anything the Microsoft doesn't think is "very important." WinXP has already passed the previous record for "longest lifetime in a Microsoft product." That record was prevously held by WinNT at 11 years 5 months. Vista was "shorted out" earlier than they hoped, although I don't know exactly what the current support status is for it. Even Microsoft admits it was a failure. Win7 is a vast improvement over Vista (almost anything is) and has some better security features than WinXP. It also seems to have somewhat better "stability" than WinXP. (A program that crashes doesn't usually take down the whole computer, and often the failed program gets recovered automatically.) Microsoft claims improved "legacy programs compatibility" but there seem to be some hiden strings attached. Given what's available now, I'd probably pick Win7 on any new machine, although there's no immediately persuasive reason to abandon WinXP if you've been happy with it. MY PREDICTION is that Win8 will be another Vista, but sales to the kiddies have been strong enough to suggest that it's a nice enough toy if you play in a small enough sandbox. John |

Subject: RE: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Dec 12 - 12:56 PM My pudder is in the hospital. My pudder is feeling quite sick. The words all run into the middle. And my mouse won't even go 'Click' Chorus Bring back, oh bring back, Oh bring back my pudder to me, to me. Bring back, oh bring back, Oh bring back my pudder to me. "It was working alright on a website" Said Bobert "Alas!" with a shrug. Now thanks to some techno-nerd gobshite, My pudder's been given a bug! Cho: I hope that my tech shop can mend it, When I asked them they didn't seem sure. I'll be ever so glad if they send it, I'll frequent this lib'ry no more. Cho: |
Subject: RE: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Dec 12 - 12:58 PM Hoping for a happy outcome to be able to add an upbeat last verse! |
Subject: RE: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: JohnInKansas Date: 16 Dec 12 - 01:21 PM Nigel - Bobert has indicated that his computer has been fixed, or at least returned to him, at BS: Need anti-virus program now!!!, but has additional difficulties. Completion of the last verse is of course something we'd all like to see, but there is now the opportunity to add the new trouble verse before celebration of the resurection (or in Bobert's case maybe the re-erection(?)). Of course, if he forgot to log out from mudcat at the library, it could be an imposter who found his cookie and is impersonating him here. I wouldn't ordinarily suspect Bobert of such carelesness, but he is used to playing with his own ... and might have forgotten. John |
Subject: RE: BS: My 'Pudder is in the Hospital... From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Dec 12 - 02:17 PM My pudder is now back from repair. To the tech shop my hat I now doff. And though I have paid for the software, I think Norton's ripping me off ... (to be continued) Thanks J.I.K. I hadn't seen the other thread. Cheers Nigel |
