A neighbor (I'm in CT) just gave me an old cassette tape of her grandfather from GA singing and playing the banjo in a drop thumb and double thumb (old-time) style. It's a TREASURE, and we're in the process of digitizing the tape and identifying the various songs for her. A couple of them are recognizable but with variations in the melody from what we know.

One of the songs on this tape is "The Blind Child's Prayer" which is a thread here on Mudcat. I posted there and will also ask the question here to try to find out more about the man.

Horace Clinton Burnette of Norman Park, GA died in 1967 (I think she said) and was quite good at singing and playing the banjo. Does anyone know anything more about him and his music? I told her that the music community may be able to help me find out some background about this wonderful musician.

In some sites he's referred to as HCB Sr (Senior).

Thanks for the genealogy link, GUEST,999. Next GUEST mentions some sites where he's referred to as HCB Sr, but I haven't been able to find any of them. Are they genealogy sites or something else?

Would love to find someone who remembers his music. The familytreemaker site lists one of his occupations was "entertainer."

Sorry. Just noticed that that guest was me. Yep, the site that said he was HCB Sr was either an obit or genealogy site. I will get back at this likely tomorrow night, Barbara. I saw the entertainer reference you mention. It makes me wonder if he used a name like Harry Burnette or something like that when he performed. We ain't done yet :-)
