Subject: Review: Shanty uk Goole gathering Jan.18/19/2013 From: ossonflags Date: 15 Dec 12 - 07:39 AM Hya all , after this years excellent Shanty uk gathering at the Goole maritime museum, and the splendid response from you all, we have extended this event to two days. This will take place on the 18th an 19th January 2013. I would really appreciate you getting back to me if you could make this event, especially if you require accommadation, parking or space for campervans etc. Rachel has informed me :We're still OK for van parking, and a bunk on Sobriety is £10 a night. Cafe will be open as normal during Museum hours (10:00 to 4:00), and we could do evening meals. We'll open up the bar on the evenings. I foresee the weekend being much as the same as last year singaround/meet and greet on the friday night. saturday will be much of the same in the afternoon and as last year Steve Gardham and myself will coordinate the evening with floor spots and singarounds. As last year this is primarily a Shanty Uk gathering, and as last year there is no expences or fees on offer fo artists. Other than accommadation on the boats it is free. Although we would appreciate a small contribution to the museum from all non singers/ musos. I hope I have given you enough info, if not, do not hesitate to contact me Yours in comradeship, and a happy and peaceful Christmas to you all. Mick McGarry |

Subject: RE: Shanty uk Goole gathering Jan.18/19/2013 From: Steve Gardham Date: 17 Dec 12 - 03:37 PM Slightly off-thread, but very relevant in some ways. We have set up a committee to try to resurrect the Hull Maritime Folk Festival despite certain unmentionable objects in our path. We have a solid team already that includes the old guard and some new blood, but would welcome local expertise in any relevant area. Anyone interested please pm either meself or Osson. Regarding the Goole meet, the Yorkshire Waterways Museum are being very accommodating as always and welcome folk music in all its forms. It would benefit us and them if we can show that there is a strong following for this type of event in the area. |
Subject: RE: Shanty uk Goole gathering Jan.18/19/2013 From: ossonflags Date: 23 Dec 12 - 08:30 AM I echo Steves sentiment. One of the reasons that has been given was lack of interest in maritime stuff.Well, I think we showed them in 2011 this was not the case. There has been a lot of interest shown in this Goole event. Plenty of people have been in touch with me personally to say they arecoming. |
