Prints are a dime a dozen....

Do a better scan...and offer the original with a posting of your portfolio and vita.

At the moment it appears you are stroking yourself

When doing rough photos of Willard's work for his catalog, we used to offset the camera angle by about 10 degrees. This eliminated the reflection without ading excessive distortion.

I used to photograph a lot of my artwork, Pete... I used my old Honeywell Pentex with various lenses... Mostly the 40mm because it is kinda an all-purpose lens...

Problem is that unless I wanted to set up a dark room it ain't easy these days 'cause film processing and printing has all but disappeared...

Well reflective medium is always going to present problems. I photograph my artwork just inside the garage, with the door open, but out of the direct sunlight. That means the light is even but relections are minimised.

If relections are still visible, you'll need a polarising filter (on a digital SLR). Also, use a 50mm lens (or zoom extent) - that's approximately how we see things - and a tripod.

Pity we live a few thousand miles apart - you could have borrowed mine (or me!).

Thanks, Pete... I kinda knew that... This was done as an after-thought... My neighbor borrows my truck ever couple weeks and so this week I was talkin' with him after one such borrowing and though I had given thought to selling some prints to help Max & the Cat I hadn't thought much about how to do it so...

...it just came to me that, unlike me, he had this little phone thing that took picture and it was all done in a minute or less...

No matter... What is being offered will be gallery quality... Heck, it is now and I'm still putting finishing touches into it...

BTW, I think that the problem with the pic is that the painting/drawing is mixed medium with different reflective qualities... That is why I would like it reproduced on a matte paper... I hate glossy prints...

Unless, of course, you've got access to a professional lighting set-up! (Mucho dinero).

Best place to photograph artwork is in the open air. See here for some good advice.

It's a basic rule of photography that flash and flat things don't make for good pictures.

(Lots of my female friends have told me that.)

Nah, kat... It was my neighbor's camera and flash... I'll try to get a better pic that better shows folks what they are going to get...

I don't think it's that bad, Bobert, though I understand your concern. If folks folllow the myopera link, they can also see a fine example of your work as the pen and ink you gave me (Lucky Me!) is there, too.

Some of it might be my fault, Bobert. It came to me sideways, so i had to rotate, BUT i didn't change any sizing..must've been Photoshop's doing. sorry 'bout that.

kat

It's a terrible picture, kat... I just can't figure it out other than I think the flash on the camera interacted with some of the three mediums differently... The real one is 100 times better than what you are looking at and the final printing with be gallery quality...

Link to photo has been posted in the auction thread. I also posted it to the FB Mudcat wall.

Thanks, Bobert, for doing this!

I sent a pic to kat and she'll put it up... It's close enough to the finish line for folks to have some idea what they are going to get...

But I'd also wait until the painting is finished so you can post a photo. There are people here who can help you with that.

I think it's a great idea!

Best place to post this, Bobert, is in the auction. First ten takers at $100 each are the winners.

Here's the deal...

As some of you know I have gotten back into painting and have been working on several "mock-ups" for paintings I want to do... One of the late Pee Wee Crayton is shaping up nicely at 80% complete and I know is going to be a real nice piece when I finish...

So, here's the deal... I am thinking of offering a limited edition of 10 prints, reproduced on the finest of matte (no gloss) paper and individually signed for $100 to your door... After printing and shipping this will put between $500 and $600 in Max's coffers for Mudcat...

Now I know that sounds like a lot of money for a limited and signed print but it ain't...

BTW, I had a neighbor take a picture with his cheap phone camera and the print looks 100 times better than the picture and the picture should be up sometime, thanks to kat...

Now, should more than 10 people want one then the edition may be stretched to accommodate them...

Offer ends January 15th 2013...

BTW, I've sold drawings for alot more...
