...me, too...

I went to the movies today and there was a trailer for an upcoming movie that started with Link Wray's "Rumble"...

I mean, I liked Link Wray a lot I first hear "Rumble"...

Then years later I was copin' pot from a guy who lived in his house...

Out back there was this very strange building/studio with "Wray's Three Track" painted on the side of it by someone who was more than likely drunk... lol...

Last I heard Link moved down to the southwest 'cause he had some breathin' issues??? I donno???

No matter, count me in as a fan...

B~

Link Wray - oh yeah!

Also loved the stuff he did with rocker Robert Gordon. Their version of "The Fool" is something else.

I loved Rumble the first time I heard it and still do. I must get round to hearing some of his other stuff. So many tunes , so little time !

That 3 Track Shack was where he recorded his 71 self-titled album, which included the classic Fire and Brimstone - Worth 4:21 of anyone's life.

The rest of the album isn't as strong, but it's got its charm.

I met this guy in Northern Virginia who was working as a car salesman who also recorded a LP in the "3 Track Shack"... His name was Mordaci Jones... I bought his LP... Pretty good stuff... Too bad that Link wasn't around when I was at his house... I'd sho nuff loved to have at least met him...

I think I had that album. When the original album was reissued, there was a bonus disc with another album of Wray's, plus (I think) the album you mention above. They were both a little lame for me, especially in comparison to the original Link Wray album.

Back in the '60's I met him in Greenwich Village when he was playing the Gaslight Cafe.

Link Wray died in 2005, I think in Denmark. His 3-track chicken coop was at his farm in Accokeek, Maryland, and our Republican Governor at the time, Bob Erlich, declared Jan 15, 2006 Link Wray Day.

Link Wray was the one who created "Rock" guitar-grungy, raw, intuitive, and loud--"Rumble" was banned by some radio stations because it sounded dangerous...if he'd gotten a nickel for every tune, or even every picker that copied his sound...

Bummer... I hadn't heard that he had died... I knew he had some serious problems with breathing... If I'm not mistaken he had had one lung removed a while back...

I agree that he created "rock guitar"... I had never heard it played in that manner... "Rumble" was like nothing that came before it...
