Obama IS the problem. He's a fascist posing as a liberal. And lifelong liberals have trouble thinking a black man could be a fascist. Hitler was a fascist. Mussolini. Not Bill Cosby. So I guess in that sense I have to agree with you that racism is a problem here. You people can't see past skin color.

When my wife was working at the Seattle Public Library some years back, she became acquainted with a woman who listened to various late night programs on the radio such as "Art Bell's Coast to Coast." Art Bell dealt in the paranormal and he apparently never met a conspiracy theory that he did not try to persuade his listeners to believe in wholeheartedly.

Now, this is a very nice lady, and she does manage to lead a more or less normal life. And she has been a guest in our home many times. But she swears to God that one day at the library, she checked out some books for an alien. He looked perfectly normal in all respects, except—the apertures in the pupils of his eyes were not the usual little black dots, but were shaped like this:   + .

Now, how that would work mechanically, I can't quite figure out, but obviously this meant the man was an alien.

She was bitterly disappointed when the world didn't come to a screeching halt on December 21st this year, when the Mayan calendar ran out, but not to worry. There will be a new Doomsday coming down the pike when the Council of Dire Prognosticators holds their next monthly meeting.

Tell you what, Songwronger:   I'm sure I could arrange for the two of you to meet. I think the two of you could have a lot of fun playing "Ain't it awful?" and generally frightening the shit out of each other.

To my friend Don Firth.

Years back a dear and good friend represented a lady in one of the USA's weapons labs. She was being fired because she was ostensibly incompetent at her job. She had been hired and the employer had known she typed about forty words a minute. She came into question because she disagreed with her bosses about corporate policy, especially the one about handicapped people in the workplace.

In front of a state judge it was determined that the employer was wrong, that she be reinstated to her job and that damages be paid.

I doubt that type of thing will happen again soon. It was in the early 1970s.

Federal job? State judge? Regardless of the rightness of the decision, it had no value - Federal trumps state (no jurisdiction).

The lab was at that time federally contracted. It did and still does belong to a university.
