Pat Lacey has just shared this on Facebook:

Last night's 'Ceili House' on Radio Eireann- tribute to Sean Mac and Liverpool Ceili Band‏

So lovely to hear Sean's voice again on old recordings- listening to it now :)

Geoff Speed of BBC Radio Merseyside's Folkscene is preparing a farewell tribute to Seán. It won't go out for a while, because Folkscene has been taken off the air for a series of football matches. I'll announce it on here when its due for transmission.

A true gentleman and a really fine fiddler. The world is a poorer place for his passing!

Very sorry to hear of Sean's passing. We loved those sessions during his holidays in Miltown Malbay. Particularly remember the last session with Tommy McCarthy in Marrinans bar, Tommy and Sean played some great tunes that nobody else knew..... wonderfull times.

Geoff and Gabi.

I copied the church details from a Twitter feed on the Comhaltas site; it should read Our Lady of the Annunciation - Bishop Eton. The funeral mass will be at 12 noon on Monday 31st Dec as already stated. See Google map here.

See you there, Fred.

Matthew

Oh God no. I've known Sean for donkey's years and have always respected and admired him. He was a damned good fiddler and a damn nice bloke.

Matthew. Thanks for putting this up. I'll doubtless see you at the funeral.

Noreen has passed me via Facebook the sad news that Sean McNamara has died on 21 December 2012; he was one of the founding members of the Liverpool Céilí Band which won the All-Ireland Fleadh twice in 1963 and 1964. There are others here who knew him far better than I did; I saw him a few times at the Liverpool Irish Centre, and at the National Festival in 2004 when he gave a talk which Fred McCormick has posted on the Musical Traditions website, Liverpool fiddler.

Sean himself wrote about the band in a newspaper article which is reproduced on the Liverpool Comhaltas website.

The Liverpool Comhaltas home page shows tweets giving the funeral details as being at Bishop Eaton church, Woolton Road, Liverpool L16 8NQ at 12 noon on Monday 31 December 2012.

Matthew
