Subject: Tech: Image source address?

I am trying to add a banner to one of my website pages. Usually the banner codes are displayed beside the relevant banners, but in this case the banner has to be copied to my pc and then the links put in.

Whilst I understand the html code bit, my question is, how do I find my pc web address to put in the "img src" link if my banner picture is in my pictures folder on my pc.

To try and explain, if for instance I uploaded the banner to say, Photobucket I would have www.photobucket.com as the img src, so what do I put in it's place when the source is my own pc. Or indeed, is this possible.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

The full path to the file as in:
c:\pictures\example.jpg

Remember that this will only work when viewed on that PC. If you want the picture to be visible on the web you must upload it to your web host or to a photo hosting service.

Thanks Peter, confirms what I was afraid of. I did try it with the full path but it didn't show on the website so I will just have to use Photobucket.

Thanks for your input.

There are ways to run a virtual web 'server' on your own PC. You would have to install special software, define what folders/files were allowed to be accessed, and leave the PC on to allow access.

One version of the Opera web browser was configured to allow such things, but I don't think it got much use, and they didn't include that ability in recent upgrades.
(I tried it briefly, but never bothered to do anything public with it. It was just too much trouble to leave the machine running... or to explain why the address didn't always work.)

Perhaps I'm stating the obvious, but you only have to put the image file in the same folder as the rest of the HTML files, nothing more complicated than that.

So, when you upload the HTML script, upload the image at the same time.

The HTML code only needs to name the file, not its location, as the location will then default to the same folder as the HTML script.
