That "Chinga's Playhouse" site is just awful. I've seen things there that would make your hair curl...or straighten it...depending on its present condition. And don't be taken in by the "First month only 99 cents" routine. Total bullshit! You will find thousands and thousands of dollars charged on your credit card, and then discover that you mysteriously somehow bought a 10-year "deluxe" membership which is irrevocable! Downloads also take way longer than they should...and are quite poor quality.

My neighbor, Donna, bless her heart, fixed it...

Seems that I had too much stuff up in the top of the screen... Sometimes when people post links it says that I need to add something to see or hear it and these other things tend to tag along...

To twist the title of a song by Warren Zevon, your shit's fucked up.

The code that includes "Yahoo" that is pasted above is in the link for the "translate" box at the bottom of each post, but shouldn't do anything unless the link is clicked.

The indication that the swap to a Yahoo Search occurs spontaneously, with no action by the user, would suggest some sort of "redirector malware scam," but so far as is reported by anyone else, Bobert is the only one it happens to. That could indicate an infection on his machine, that nobody else has, but since it appears to go to an innocuous site it seems unlikely. As with any unexpected behaviour, a good malware scan wouldn't be a bad idea, just to eliminate the obvious.

IFF Yahoo is set as the default search engine, switching to another engine as default - in the same browser - to see if it goes to the new location would perhaps provide a clue, although it's hard to say what the clue would mean without other indications.

With information given so far, I'll still go with one or the other of the "too much beer" possibilities - just to tweak Bobert, but also partly because the other most likely things would require more explanation than merited until more definitive symptoms are available.

John

I agree that malicious activities by Chongo are unlikely. If Chongo were responsible, your browser wouldn't be redirected to anything as innocuous as Yahoo. It'd be a chimp porn site like "Chinga's Playhouse". ("Let Chinga show you the real reason chimps like bananas so much! Oook! Oook!" Special introductory offer: First month only 99¢!)

..or.. because Yahoo is included in th 'source code' for the page(s)

Without knowing which (or how many) browsers you use, and what search engines you have loaded/available, it's unlikely anyone can offer much comment on problems specific to them.

You might have a problem with your modem or router, but only a few of us might know what you're using there. Problems with the device(s) OR just a bad cable between any two things connected could cause false signals.

A possibility that could be common to almost everyone could be corruption in your USB controller(s), since most people use USB connected mouse and keyboard (even if they're wireless you probably plug a relay into a USB port(?)). A bad battery in your wireless mouse could contribute.

Too much beer spilled on the keyboard is a possibility?

Too much beer in the operator could also be suspect.

Malicious activities by Chongo are unlikely, since that would interfere with the keystroke logget he installed on your machine several months ago; although since he was rather irate at the time he may have screwed the setup.

John

Chongo must have finally decided to take direct action against you over those "poopflinging" allegations.

So, for some reason, if I open any thread here before I can read much of anything the screen jumps over to "Yahoo" with "mudcat" in a search box... Seems to happen after about 30 seconds and has happened twice just typing this...

WTF is going on???

B~
