Thanks Jen,

BTW my brother-in-law Bob Hitchcock says hello, he's moved to Poolesville but is still in the area.

I'm researching the Child Ballads here: http://bluegrassmessengers.com/the-farmers-curst-wife--nc-1917-brown-5-ver.aspx

Just one of the thousands of pages- lol I've put on in the alst year or so.

Need the Carpenter collection when I do all the English versions. So I'm waiting. It's great you have it digitized. Hope the sound recordings are included.

Richie

Richie, I don't remember receiving an email from you a year ago... but if I did miss it, I apologize. I am the Curator of the James Madison Carpenter Collection, so I am the appropriate person to email. If you do not get a response for some reason, you may email our Reference account, which is < folklife@loc.gov >.

The Carpenter Collection research team in the U.K., based at Elphinstone Institute in Aberdeen, continues work on the multi-volume hardback critical annotated edition of the J.M. Carpenter Collection. However, they did not receive the most recent grant they applied for, so work may not proceed as quickly as when it was well funded. The Library of Congress has the collection in the queue to put online, as we have already digitized the collection in its entirety. But the Library's website architecture is about to undergo a radical change... and until the new web architecture goes live and stabilizes, LC cannot mount the Carpenter Collection online. Yes, it has been a long wait... and the wait is not yet over, though the goal is in sight. Should you wish to urge the prioritization of the Carpenter website, you can always write to the Librarian of Congress, James H. Billington. I hope this answers your question on the status of the publication of the Carpenter Collection.

Hi,

I emailed Dr. Julia C. Bishop, two times, once about her article on "The white Fisher". No response.

Any US connections? I've emailed Cutting a year ago- no response. maybe someone else from LOC?

Richie

Last I heard it was still a work in progress. But yes all those working on it are doing so under the Elphinstone umbrella

It looks like the Collection website hasn't been updated in several years.

Hi,

I'm working on the Child ballads and can't seem to figure out what going on with the Carpenter Collection.

There's an index, but no text, music or sound recordings?

I don't get it. I emailed Cutting at LOC two years about and it was supposed to be finished in Dec 2010.

Am I missing something? Who do I contact for info?

Richie
