Roberto, I think you would get your question answered by Vic Smith. Why don't you message him via Mudcat?

This I don't know. But Mudcat's own Deb Cowan does a nice a capella version, and there's a wonderful recording by Mary McCaslin.

Erata corrige: it is on Songs of the people, not the songs carriers. Thank you 999 and Dan.

Roberto:
Bandit Cole Younger is attributed to Edward L Crane 'The Texas Cowboy' on the Harry Smith Anthology (issued by Colombia early 1930).
Don't know if it's the same one without comparing

The version I sing is a version that appears in Lomax, Max Hunter and I have also seen it in the Flanders Ballad collection.

Thanks for the info Jim C. I had forgotten that it was on the Smith anthology.

In "Folk Songs of North America," Alan Lomax suggests that Crane learned the words from John Lomax's "Cowboy Songs" (1910) and then "set his own tune."

I haven't compared Crane's and Lomax's texts in many years and can't say how similar they are.

No, it is not Crane. I've read Ed McCurdy recorded the ballad, and I'm pretty sure it is him singing.
