Subject: Lyr Add: THE BOYS FROM THE COUNTY CORK From: GUEST,999 Date: 22 Jan 13 - 09:05 AM This is the CB and TM version--or one of them. I have no idea which came first, but this version contains the Chorus and two stanzas of the one you posted the link for, Rog. THE BOYS FROM THE COUNTY CORK Chorus: We'll meet the boys from Kerry; we'll meet the boys from Clare From Dublin, Wicklow, Donnegal and the boys from old Kildare Some came from the land beyond the sea, from Boston and New York But the boys who beat the Black and Tans were the boys from the County Cork You've read in the history's pages the heroes of great fame The deeds they've done, the battles won and how they won their fame But the boys who made the history for the Orange, White and Green Were the boys who died in Dublin town in Nineteen Sixteen Chorus Praise the brave battalions who fought the Black and Tans From Liffey, Noor and Shannon, from Lagan Suir and Bann Our honor to those volunteers who for duty did report Yet the best of all the soldiers were the lads of the County Cork Chorus Now Cork gave us McSweeny a martyr who did die And Wicklow gave us Michael Dwyer in the days so long gone by And Dublin gave us Padric Pearse, McBride and Cathal Brutha And America gave us DeValera to lead old Ireland through Chorus Rifles and revolvers were all that we possessed A stick or two of gelignite for arms we were hard pressed Yet we used them gamely 'gainst all that they did sport And none had so much bravery as the Boys of the County Cork Chorus Chorus |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE BOYS OF THE COUNTY CORK From: Rog Peek Date: 22 Jan 13 - 09:03 AM No, I think those start with "Well, you've read in history's pages the heroes of great fame... and are posted elsewhere on Mudcat. The lyrics Ron sings are these: Raise the brave battalions who fought the Black and Tans, From the Liffey, Nore and Shannon, from the Lagan shore and Ban, All honour to those heroes who for duty did report, But the best of all our soldiers were the boys of the county Cork. chorus Some o' them came from Dublin, some o' them came from Clare Some o' them came from Antrim, from Wicklow and Kildare, Some they them came from London, from Glasgow and New York, But the boys who beat the Black and Tans were the boys of the County Cork. Rifles and revolvers were all that we possessed, A stick or two of gelignite for arms we were hard pressed, Yet we used them gamely and stalled the 'Tans so dark, And none had so much bravery as the boys of the County Cork. Chorus x2 Rog |
Subject: RE: Origins: Boys of The County Cork - lyric query From: Rapparee Date: 22 Jan 13 - 08:32 AM You mean the one the Makems did, which include "Here's to the boys from Kerry And here's to the boys from Clare From Dublin, Wicklow, Donegal And boys from Old Kildare. They came from a land beyond the sea From Boston and New York, But the boys who beat the Black and Tans Were boys from the County Cork." |
Subject: Origins: Boys of The County Cork - lyric query From: Rog Peek Date: 22 Jan 13 - 08:21 AM I posted a verion of lyrics to 'The Boys of The County Cork' above. They are the lyrics on Ron Kavana's 'Irish Song of Rebellion, Resistance and Reconcilliation'. These lyrics seem to be quite different to others I have been able to find, anyone any ideas as to origin? I posted this as it occured to me that I might get less visits to a simple "Lyr Add". Rog |
