Advice at slipstick, but I wondered if any mudcatters had the problem.

I hit send, and the message goes to the outbox and stays there.

New to Windows 7.

Depends on the email program.. different settings. You can usually go to the options and tell it to behave like you want.

What size email is it? Since I got Win 7 I've not been able to send anything over 2 meg and the larger the file the longer it takes to send.

Short paragraph, 7-8 lines.

Some of the suggestions at slipstick (linked by Windows 7) are involved; that's why I hoped someone here might have suggestions.

You still haven't said which email program. Some do have an offline capability where "send" puts the message in the outbox but the actual sending of the queue is a separate instruction. Perhaps you have enabled something like this by accident.

Windows 7 slightly changes the programs you can use conveniently, but your Operating System doesn't do much to control email.

Your setup must agree with what your email service provider requires, and also may depend on with what program you use to send/receive your mail. The required setings for a given provider may also depend on whether you choose to handle your mail via html, or use a more adquate email program.

The most likely place where problems occur is in your EMAIL ACCOUNT settings. For many kinds of email accounts, your mail program must be set to use a specific server to send mail to, and another different server to receive mail from. Neither of these is necessarily the same server you connect to for general web connection. The messages you send may require a different protocol than ones you receive, and "security settings" may be needed on one direction with different settings on the other.

If you can receive email but not send, it's most likely that the account settings in the program you use are incorrect.

Your email provider is probably the only one who can tell you how to setup or fix your account setup and tell you what you can or cannot transmit on the account you have. (Some providers in the past would block sends if you exceed a certain number of messages sent per day, on suspicion that you were "spamming," but I haven't heard of any doing that now that spam is so drasticaly reduced - down to less than 70% of all email according to Kaspersky.)

My service provides excellent support by telephone or via their website. In cases where problems can't be solved simply by their website FAQ, I've found contact by phone most efficient; but some providers only say "If your email doesn't work, send an email to us at ... ."

I noticed an email did that in Outlook on my work laptop last week. I found it in the Outbox (something I've never used - my mail is either a draft or is sent). I forwarded it to the person I'd originally meant to send it to and asked if she received it the first time, and she had.

I wonder if this is some new update that Windoze has put up for Outlook? I use the Mozilla Thunderbird program as my resident email manager on my home computer and I download all of my posts, but leave a copy on the server as backup. I don't use Outlook if I don't have to.
