Subject: RE: Carthy Hardy Farrell Young From: Chris_S Date: 31 Jan 13 - 02:05 PM Saw them at Chipping Norton – again packed audience. Really enjoyed how they each took turns to lead a song which meant great variety in song type and singing. Liza was on fire with her fiddle playing and they all sang brilliantly. Lucy Farrell just edged it for me with her song Little Birds but there were many highlights. Top night, great for folk music. The album is well worth checking out and only £8.00 quid or so from Amazon. |
Subject: Carthy Hardy Farrell Young From: Edthefolkie Date: 31 Jan 13 - 01:49 PM Anyone else seen them? (Eliza, Bella, Lucy Farrell and Kate Young). We saw them at the Musician in Leicester - which was sold out, so it was heaving inside. No smoke these days thank God. Eccentric ladies, and a very eclectic set ranging from Bruce Molskey and Levon Helm to Cyril Tawney, with "Chickens In The Garden" in the middle and "Country Life" as an encore. I realised with horror that after over 30 years I STILL can't get the chorus of "Chickens" right. Eliza is recovering from bad flu so the other three took the biggest share of the singing but all four contributed excellent fiddling and musical saw parts. Liza managed to play fiddle and bass drum simultaneously too. Myself and partner thought it was an absolutely cosmic evening. Apparently Kathryn Tickell suggested that the four should get together - if so, well done indeed! Catch 'em if you can, I believe they will be doing festivals later this year. |
