I don't know whether the original poster is still interested in the words of the song as it was over a year ago but here they are.

I was mistaken (apparently) when I suggested that the lyrics were on the Scotland's Songs site, so here they are:

Just came across this thread when thinking it would have been a good song for the Commonwealth Games and had been recorded by the Clydesiders as used for the games volunteers. I was a member of the band along with Sandy Kelso from it's inception in 1968, and indeed still am, although we play rarely these days. The track was indeed on an album 'Wild Mountain Thyme' and was written largely by Sandy, although I think maybe Duncan had some input. . I don't think that the track is available these days though some of the old stuff is on ITunes. I do have it myself if anyone was desperate for the words.

I looked out my Clydesiders tape too but couldn't find it on there. You might try Duncan McCrone, who was in the Clydesiders and, I think still works for M.C.P.S. in Glasgow.

From what the original poster said, I suspect that Megan L's clicky link could well be the song mentioned -- written by a friend of mine Ian Davison (a Glasgow songwriter with a lot of good songs, such as 'When Mandela danced in the Square' about the occasion when Nelson Mandela was granted the Freedom of Glasgow in the City Chambers on George Square).

Ian's 'I'm going home to Glasgow' song has a catchy tune and a wordy chorus which isn't always picked up on the first listening....

Finally, ignore the link's spelling of Ian's surname, which is - properly - without an internal letter 'd'.

Not the song you're looking for, but worth mentioning on this thread, is "I wish I was in Glasgow" by Billy Connolly: several versions on YouTube.
Possibly 'catters Ewan McVicar or Adam McNaughtan might know?

I found a reference to an album "Wild Mountain Thyme" that contains the following songs:

Wild Mountain Thyme / Glasgow Lullaby / There Was a Lad / Suite (Dr Finlay's Casebook) / Para Handy Polka / Sponge Trumpet Hornpipe (Captain Pugwash) / Welcome Home to Glasgow / My Love Is Like a Red Red Rose / Home to the Kyles / Lowlands Low / Bumie Boozie / If Wishes Were Fishes / Barren Rocks of Aden / La Russe / Cadder Woods / River / Corn Rigs.

The track list comes from page 20 of a book called The Great Scots Musicography by Martin C Strong (Edinburgh: Mercat, 2002).

Google classifies this book as "snippet view only" which I why I am unable to see the artist's name, label, or date, but anyone who can get hold of this book should be able to find that data.

By the way, the phrase "Welcome home to Glasgow" was the slogan of a 1983 advertising campaign meant to attract tourists to Glasgow. Maybe there was some connection.

Greetings!   Has anyone the lyrics to 'Welcome Home to Glasgow'? The fist full line is, I believe, ' 'Welcome home to Glasgow, where doors are open wide'.

Many of my friends at the club seem to know the first line, but tend to mumble after that!
