Subject: Jim Lauderdale, musician, songwriter From: Genie Date: 09 Feb 13 - 03:25 AM Insomnac that I pleadguilty of being, I happened to stumble upon a PBS show recently featuring the music of Jim Lauderdale (way underground, as it happened) I was pleasantly surprised, not just at Jim's music but at his having collaborated with Robert Hunter and the like. Just wondering whichever 'cats, if any, have discovered and appreciated Jim Lauderdale's songs. Genie |

Subject: RE: Jim Lauderdale, musician, songwriter From: pdq Date: 09 Feb 13 - 01:30 PM Robert Hunter tried to play Bluegrass in the early 1960s. His rhythm guitar was OK but he can't sing in that league. Some of his lyrics are really abstruse, like "Mason' Children", but others are as down to Earth as Country Music. Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Herb Pedersen, David Nelson, Butch Waller, Peter Rowan and others all knew each other and played Bluegrass. |
Subject: RE: Info/Review: Jim Lauderdale, musician, songwriter From: Genie Date: 11 Feb 13 - 01:16 AM I know, pdq. I have a CD of Jerry, David G., John Kahn, and some of those others, as "Old And In The Way," doing some great bluegrass stuff! |
Subject: RE: Info/Review: Jim Lauderdale, musician, songwriter From: GUEST Date: 11 Feb 13 - 04:45 AM Jim Lauderdale has worked with many people over the years and has a long list of albums to his credit including 2 with Ralph Stanley. The standout album for me is 'Head For the Hills' with Robert Hunter but he has a new one out with Buddy Miller which I look forward to hearing. |
