Heading to Whitby Sunday to Wednesday next week (17-20 Feb). What chance a tune or mixed song and tune session for a couple of fiddle players?

I've heard that a Sunday evening session MAY have started in the Station again probably song & tune
Monday night session in the Dolphin, mix of songs and tunes

No point in mnetioning a SATURDAY night do to Martin when he's only here from SUNDAY to WEDNESDAY.

I also didn't mention the Dolphin in Robin Hoods Bay on a FRIDAY or the Dolphin in Whitby on a FRIDAY or the White Hart at Mickleby on a SATURDAY or the Folk club at the Friendship on a THURSDAY.

Happy now

Guest, Librarian

You must have been unlucky as we try to ensure at least one of us is there. However, as with life, sometimes this is not always possible.

As Ann says she is usually there first thing anyway. Unfortunately, I'm an on call member of an emergency service. So there will be times when I will be unable to attend even though I had planned to.

We also like to spend time with our children and grandchildren when they come to visit for the weekend which has happened a couple of times of late. I don't suppose we will be able to get the kids interested in folk or traditional music and tunes but we're working on the grandchildren!!!

Stu has also been busy becoming a grandfather for the second and third time and has also not been well.

Regards, Chris

Please do not shout at me Guest Raggytash, no need for it.

To be truly pedantic the post does say Pub sessions in Whitby - Feb half term, well the weekend always fell on a half term as well; did in my day anyway.

I do hear what you are saying about the timing of the sessions but I was merely passing a comment on the sessions generally in Whitby; and for my money the FILO is the best.I have spent many a happy hour in the FILO in the company of the very genial and talented hosts Stu and Chris,Jock and Jonty, Mick Green,Curragh the cereal folk singer, Val Mai, Tony and Angie last but far least Tony Morris who sings some very intresting and quirky song, great charector, one of natures gentlemen and a real pleasure to be in his company.

a great pub with some great people.

Guest, Loyal person

Many thanks for your endorsement.

We are still going despite a change of landlords from Paul and Anne who were very supportive of us all.

When they lost the pub we had to have an eighteen month hiatus while the new landlady decreed that all were welcome except the Tuesday night musicians!!

Needless to say this sound business acumen led to the pub closing again!

The new landlords, although supposedly temporary, are welcoming. and the session is now on a saturday night and back in the small end of the pub.

We have lost a few who have gone on to other things but we have gained a few new followers as well. Needless to say we will endeavour to keep things going.

Thanks again, Chris

Hey up, someone's got their knickers in a twist. Let me guess who..........v...........

I admit that perhaps I should not have used capital letters and aplogise for that, merely emphasising the different nights for folk sessions in Whitby. Like numerous other people I have enjoyed (and advertised) the nights at the FILO, which for those of you who don't know is the First In Last Out, 1 York Terrace, Fishburn Park,Whitby YO21 1PT

Cheers

Raggytash

Hi Chris, whoever the "loyal person" is, I would guess they haven't been to the FILO for a while. Jock & Jonty haven't been there for years, Val Mai moved out of town some time ago, Mick Green, Tony and Angie I don't think go on any regular basis, Curragh only goes through the caravan season and me and Christine didn't even get a mention. So all in all not really good names to pick out as being shining examples of stalwarts of the FILO unless something has changes in the past few weeks.
But as we both know the MUDCAT does attract its fair share of Trolls.

Cheers

Nick

Blimey! Didn't mean to stir up so much angst...
Anyway we'll try and make it to the Endeavour tomorrow afternoon and take it from there. FILO will have to wait until we're in town on a Saturday.
Looking forward to our visit...

No problems Martin! No angst except in the ones who see it as such.

Gentle teasing mayhap?

Endeavour is a great choice!! as is all the pubs that have live music in Whitby, Black Horse is also a lovely little pub fo an impromptu session.

But hang on a little bit.. I have had great reports of the Golden Lion... great little boozer .
I have heard from some of the more eclictic and avant gard of our mates, the place to be for a good time....hello sailor!!

But it was nice to wind up Mr. Whitby for a little bit, dontcha think?

My word, the troll and I actually concur on something. The Black Horse is, when the occasional impromptu session occurs, a very good venue indeed. However it is a rare event these days.

No, Derek no longer is running the session. The Station Inn session is still going strong and is run by a lovely group who are open and welcoming to all, normally from 8.30pm on a sunday and 9pm on a tuesday. Rumours that the session had ended are wrong, there are plenty of sessions in town for everyone to enjoy. You are all very welcome at ours.

I have not been to Whitby for some time. I remember a crowd of buskers outside the bank .Real tallented lads, made a cracking sound, great singer and whistle player.

I thought they was really talented and a cut above a lot of the usual moaning and groaning folkies.

One lad said they had played with the Furys. They wer damned nice to talk to.
Are they still about?

With their talent they should have moved onto something bigger.
