Some versions of Windows have had rather confusing "security settings" that might cause problems for a few users. Since the OP indicated "some of our" users it's unlikely that you'd have details of the setup(s) used by those who have the problem.

If a person logs on as a user with "restricted privileges" the option to "install as administrator" may not always appear when it's demanded by the system. If the user has sufficient privileges, a popup usually will appear asking if you want to do the installation with admin authority. Differences between the several recent Windows versions are small, but can make it difficult to figure out what can be changed that will be helpful.

Firewalls and AV programs can also block download of "executables" as well as installation of what you can download, especially if they're not "signed" to identify who wrote them.

It can get rather messy trying to extract enough information to help random individuals with problems of this sort, but if you can figure out why one person is having trouble the solution is likely to be similar for a bunch of them. About the only advice that's generally applicable is "try to be lucky."

Regarding fitting it all on a page, you can nearly always use a bigger page when composing in the program if it's convenient, and nearly all printers have a checkbox somewhere in the printer setup/options etc where a simple check mark in a box will tell the printer to "fit to page," and the printer will scale the page you "drew" in the program so it fits on the paper you've got in the printer, either shrinking or enlarging as needed. It helps to keep the ratio of width to height (aspect ratio) simmilar for what you set up in the program and what paper you print to, but fairly significant deviations in aspect ratio usually are handled pretty well by most printers.

When you click "print" (or the printer icon) Windows should tell you what printer is selected, and layout and options should be shown for that printer. In olden times when some people had only one printer no choice would be shown, but nearly all recent Windows setups will have several "printers" due to inclusion of "print to pdf" etc options that have become mostly standard. (I have 3 "hardware" printers installed, but get 12 choices including the "print to" junk.)

John

You shouldn't have to leave out the X: field to get two tunes on a page. When you send the Temporary List to print you'll see a Page Setup window - check that you haven't got the "one tune per page" box ticked under "Miscellaneous". If that's not the problem, adjust the scale until both tunes appear.

Hi Lester,

two tunes appear on each page of ABC - I have to leave out the X: field for the second one to get two on a page.

Thanks Griska I'll give that a go later

On my computer there are two versions installed simultaneously, in different directories; both work. Just download and double-click.

The menu item "Check a new version" under "Help" indeed seems to be of little help.

What exactly did you and your friend do, and what exactly happened then?

Your ABC file is sort of broken. There are a number of tunes which have no X: field so don't appear in ABC Explorer properly, for example Planxty Irwin only apperas a s part of Planxrty Fanny Power, I guess this may be intentional but it seems odd.

Seems fine to me too on my Windows machine. I presume you are not doing it on a Mac? In which case you would need EasyABC http://www.nilsliberg.se/ksp/easyabc/

It seems fine to me. I can't install on the machine I'm using at the moment - it's my Ubuntu machine not Windows - but I can download it without problems.

You need to left-click the Télécharger / Download link to go to the download page and then right-click/Save As (or just left-click and get asked what to do Save/Run IIRC) the ABCEXPLORER_1_6_0_SETUP.exe link.

I have used ABC to create our tune book and I have put this link on our website:

ABC

Folk at The Beech website

But a number of us have cannot download this to our computers. Is this a little local problem - if so what can be done?

Best wishes
