Subject: New guitar! From: alex s Date: 02 Mar 13 - 04:56 AM Just bought a mint 20 year old Lowden O32. Won't be leaving the house for a fortnight.... |
Subject: RE: New guitar! From: GUEST Date: 02 Mar 13 - 05:14 AM Alex Mine's 15 years old, had it from new - utterly glorious - you'll never leave the house again, unless you take it with you!! As a matter of interest, mine sounds the best, to me, with D'Addario EJ17's (13-56), though I think maker's recommendations are 12's. Mine does'nt appear to have suffered any over the years! Enjoy your new acquisition...I love mine to bits.... Regards to all.. Spot ;-) |
Subject: RE: New guitar! From: alex s Date: 02 Mar 13 - 05:23 AM Cheers, Spot. I like Elixir 12-56's anyway, so I'll try the EJ17s. When I can bear to put it down....and eat....and sleep.... |

Subject: RE: New guitar! From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 02 Mar 13 - 05:43 AM You couldn't do better. I had one from the 90s. I went to the Acoustic Centre in Wapping with the small-bodied S10 in mind, but I played everything they had and when I played the O32 the sound was just so good - big and ringing - I changed my mind on the spot. At one point, after I'd moved out of London in 2002, I made a trip back to look for a smaller guitar to carry around for casual playing. The only thing I found that I liked (after looking in a lot of shops) was a Lowden F12!. At the time I didn't think it made sense to have an O32 and an F12, but a few years ago I did change the O32 for an F12, which is what I use now. But you'll love playing the O32. Best of luck with it. (btw, I used d'Addario EJ16, 12-53, on it; never got on with the feel of Elixirs and didn't like 13s on it either) Mick |

Subject: RE: New guitar! From: Midchuck Date: 02 Mar 13 - 11:16 AM Yesterday, I drove across Vermont to try out a Voyage-air VAOM-04 that I saw on Craigslist. Seemed unlikely, but I took the asking price out of the bank, in cash, just in case. I got to the place and tried the guitar, and thought the sound and playability were very good - superb, in light of the asking price. Then the owner showed me the procedure for folding it up, and opening it back up. Then I played it some more. Then I just handed him the cash. These things are incredible! If a guitar that folds up, and opens up to play, so easily can be made, with that good sound and action, for such a reasonable price, why don't more companies do it? There's got to be a catch somewhere. I hope I don't find out what it is for a long while yet. So much for my noble "no more guitars" resolution. "But this was a special case..." Haw! Peter |

Subject: RE: New guitar! From: michaelr Date: 02 Mar 13 - 07:22 PM You'd have to ask George! All I know is that mine is big, deep, and loud, yet incredibly light weight. The pinless bridge design must have something to do with it. |
