Subject: RE: What Became of Swordedge and Sue Fenwick From: Dave Sutherland Date: 01 Mar 18 - 11:36 AM Swordedge would certainly have played as a band at STF&B as Dave Smith was a long time resident prior to the group's formation. Dave did ask me to do some publicity or similar for the band around summer 1978 but it was just as I was moving to Nottingham and sadly had to decline. I re-connected with Dave around 1995 when he was agent for quite a prestigious collection of artists including June Tabor, Rory McLeod, the late Issac Guillory, Aly Bain and Johnny Dickinson. I agree that they were a band of huge potential and Sue was a fine singer. |

Just picked up this thread as I was curious as to what happened to Swordedge. Guess what, I have the album. |

Subject: RE: What Became of Swordedge and Sue Fenwick From: GUEST Date: 15 Nov 13 - 04:41 PM Hi Sue, I am happy to hear that you are still performing. When I heard your performance of Rosemary Lane I though here is an English woman with a voice to match Maddy Prior or Sandy Denny. Kindest regards and thanks for your reply. |
Subject: RE: What Became of Swordedge and Sue Fenwick From: GUEST,Sue Fenwick Date: 04 Jun 13 - 05:37 PM I'm here! It's nice to know that someone still remembers the band. We only ever made the one album as shortly after that I moved to Scotland and John Davies moved to London so it just wasn't practical to continue. I've continued to sing although under different names and recorded two albums with The Hudson Swan Band (as Sue Swan) and more recently a nice little CD with a group called Pennyroyal (as Sue Dixon). Sadly, the latter band is also now defunct due to the ill health of one of the members. Oddly, after losing touch for many years I moved to the Midlands and found I was living in the same street as John Davies. He also still playing with various bands and is as good as ever. John also told me that the Swordedge album has become a collectors item and mint copies sell for around £600. Guess that's my claim to fame then! Thanks for asking. |
Subject: RE: What Became of Swordedge and Sue Fenwick From: GUEST,John Scovill Date: 03 Mar 13 - 09:42 PM Great first effort and then they disappeared? Where are they now? |
Subject: RE: What Became of Swordedge and Sue Fenwick From: GUEST,999 Date: 03 Mar 13 - 07:52 PM Indeed they did. Why do you ask? |
Subject: What Became of Swordedge and Sue Fenwick From: GUEST,John Scovill Date: 03 Mar 13 - 06:26 PM Swordedge evidently dated from the early '80's. The band was comprised of Sue Fenwick (bowed psaltry and vocals), Dave Smith (guitar( and John Davies (guitar, flute, and vocals). They did an especially evocative performance of Rosemary Lane. |
