Another fantastic man gone to that big singaround up there.I have good memories of Harvey both many years ago with the wonderful early Stockton folk scene to nights we spent with to much whisky with Graham Miles @ Dave Purvis's house. Then at various local folk nights an amazing amount he put into his life & music.

We went to see him about a week before he headed over to the great session in the sky.

Despite being bed bound and obviously very frail he was in pretty good spirits. We sang him a couple of songs which he joined in with ...... and he still had the strength to make jokes about the banjo!

As JHW says above, he was invariably smiling ...... and banging away on his single (sometimes double!)stringed teachest bass. I've just noticed his "Hambleton View" CD on the desk next to me ..... he wrote and/or sang some fine songs. He also had some interesting jobs including Miner, Lighthouse Keeper and Youth Hostel manager!

Wendy and I owe a lot to Harvey. He has always been very encouraging and was one of the people who was instrumental in Wendy spreading her wings and performing nationally. He'll be missed around here.

Our thoughts are with Maureen and Lizzie.

How very sad.
A lovely guy, great "character" and a staunch supporter of local folk.

This is sad news about Harvey.
I met hin so long ago that the circumstances of our meeting have been forgotten. he ran the folk club at Northallerton for some years and when that finished he and Maureen went on to run the folk club at the Riverside in Bedale. Harvey got round the local folk scene as well and every now and again we would meet at Saltburn or Guisbro or the Cutty Wren swap a few insults and then get down to the serious business of a good gossip. I will miss his round smiling face and silver hair and his lively rendition of South Australia.
Our sympathies go to Maureen and Harveys family

Only just heard the news - very sad to see the big man go. I've lost touch with the folk scene for a few years now but still remember fondly the great nights we had at the Northallerton Folk Club through the 1990s and beyond. He nurtured me and encouraged me to perform and I'll be eternally grateful to him. His voice was a remarkable instrument and he could sing a tender love song as well as raucous shanty. As has been notde by others, he was also a very fine song writer, with very perceptive lyrics detailing life in the north east and his beloved North Yorkshire. he wrote hilarious parodies of folk songs, too, my favourite being Westering Ho. A very big man who will be sadly missed

Really sorry to hear this sad news.

I first met Harvey at my uncle's funeral and we sang the songs that recalled the roving rollicking youthhostelling adventures they had together.

Rest in Peace Harvey
Sean and family

A piece of doggerel for Harvey from his friends.

A TOAST TO HARVEY BLOGG

Harvey was a one-off
I'm sure you'll all agree.
Unique is the word that comes to mind,
A tad more unique than most of us,
For sure more unique than me.
When the Good Lord fashioned Harvey,
He made just one - that's all!
Then smashed the mould assunder,
Against high-heaven's wall.
Larger than life in many ways,
(That's Harvey I mean, not God!)
We've shared life's path together,
Side-by-side many a mile we've trod.
A friend, a marra, and raconteur,
A canny crack who could spin a good yarn
He'd always do you a good turn
And never do anyone harm.
Though he's gone let's remember Harvey,
That canny Durham lad,
Give thanks for the boy from Horden,
Let's remember him and be glad.
I'm sure he would want us all to smile
And laugh when we think of him;
Just remember the tall tales he used to tell
With a chuckle and a cheeky grin.
There are sure to be moors and dales in heaven,
Where perhaps we'll all meet by and by.
So let's make a toast to a life well lived;
Come, raise up our glasses high.

Here's to Harvey! Cheers!

Ainsley
