St Albans Museum is running an exhibition of Folk in Focus covering a hundred years of folk music, song and dance, throughout March.

Entry is free. St Albans was the birthplace of Steeleye Span, of course. It also hosted the southernmost NW morris side at one time, and it was one of the first mixed NW morris sides.

St Albans pageants, including folk dancing, were popular before WW1.

When I returned to the city from the RN in 1973, there was a folk club or music session every night of the week, and two on Fridays! Not so now, but the folk scene is still strong.
