Barry, if you are getting as far as the grey screen, it is still my guess that a security setting on your computer is the most likely cause. After you have loaded (or got as far as you can), you can view the Java Console (from Explorer - where you entred the chat - not from the Mudcat Chat page).

I can get in OK but it still reports 1 exception (String index out of bounds)when I try to refresh that page. Have a look. Don't worry if it does not make any sense - just see if it reports any security Exceptions - if it does, changing your browser settings might be the answer.

I have Internet Explorer 5 and I can get into chat.
You can check your security settings if you:

1) Click on Tools on the top line menu
2) Click on Internet Options
3) Click on the Security tab
Make sure Internet is highlighted.
Note, my security level is set on Medium. If yours is on High and you reset it to Medium, it might do the trick. If not:
Click on the Custom Level button.
Look for Java, then Java Permissions
If Disable Java is checked, that's your problem. Mine's on High Safety, and it works.

I have to leave for work in a little while, and tomorrow I'm off to NOMAD. If you still have problems, maybe we could work on it by phone or some other way.

Barry, Just a thought here, are you running IE4 or 5. Jeri's instructions work fine for IE5 but if my memory serves me correctly, the Internet Options comes under the View menu in IE4.

Judy ... it takes a few seconds for the chat window to appear. You're showing up at entering and then leaving ... several times, as a matter of fact. I don't know if it's working now because it just stopped on me ... moonchild

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing double. I could get as far as seeing a list of everyone in there, each listed twice. And I could see myself going in (and without my touching any buttons) I'd be back out again! Anyway, I look forward to checking in sometime when it's working a little better.

Gotta get a _little_ sleep. . .

It looks as if it's gone down again. I am in 2 places at the moment. ICQ 52197911 and I'm still playing with my own chat room which is wroking and should be accesible to those who can access the Mudcat chat. Unfortunately, unitl I get round to posting a link to my own web site, my address is different each time I connect to the web and I am at the mercy of my very unreliable phone connection. Currently, I am at http://212.49.245.12 and the IP address at log on needs to be the same (without the http://) ie 212.49.245.12.
