A great player. Far more of a jazzman than his band's pop successes implied.
RIP Kenny

I remeber 'stomping' to Midnight In Moscow as a teenager. RIP Mr Ball.

Another legend from my childhood passes. I remember my Mum went to one of his gigs reluctantly back in the early sixties - and she came back totally won over. He was playing up until January - a real trooper. RIP.

I can't recall anybody as well known whose on-line biographies have so little personal detail. There's even less than on Thomas Pynchon. What gives?

I produced two LPs with Kenny and found him a lovely, funny man. Condolences to his family.

Does anybody here know about the alternative version that Kenny made of his big hit "Hello Dolly" ? It was called "Hello Solly" about a circumcision that went wrong.

Friends who saw him recently said he had someone else playing trumpet & his son singing. Still, he had a long innings. Another part of my teens gone.

RIP Kenny

I will play Midnight in Moscow on Church organ this Sunday as my tribute to a musician who has given a lot of people a lot of enjoyment over many years!

Hey, let's dust off those Ball Barber & Bilk LPs and do a bit of reminising for the great era of British Trad Jazz

I wasn't a big fan of the trad jazz back in the day, but I'm wiser now and listening to Kenny's version of Midnight in Moscow I can marvel at the great interplay between the instruments.
Wonderful stuff!

Kenny plays Moscow!

To Hootenanny

Yes I have the PYE JAZZ Demo 7NJ 2071-5 Advanced Promotion Copy that belonged to Ken, given to me by his son.

Ken was a friend for over 40 years, miss him very much.

Hi PJC,
Good to know it hasn't been lost. I used to hear it in the Capricorn drinking club in Greek Street, when it was owned by Acker Bilk's brother Dave. They had a copy there. Roy James ex Bilk banjo/guitar player used to run things there and it was a great gathering place for a while.
