Thanks

I'm trying to remember... I was there about 5 years ago.   The last two villages on the road running along the South Shore had pubs with music. The farthest west one had built a hall on, but did dance hall kind of stuff. Still some young traddies showed up around 1 a.m. and were worth waiting up for. The father of the current owner was also great fun! We stayed just west of the pub with June... Fadden? an elderly lady originally from S Wales! Fab breakfasts.

Enjoyed our visit tremendously and always hoped to get back there one day.

Check the Achill Tourism site.

The Session lists the following - http://thesession.org/sessions/search?day=&q=achill

We were there a few years ago, but it was in the summer ( main tourist season).
We camped near the main town ( a largish village really )and went into the local pub - there were 2 in the centre. The caravan next to us was staked down. I think they sometimes got bad weather.
They had sessions at the weekend - a bit organised I think - with hanging mikes. However, they were not precious, and despite the fact we don't do a lot of Irish, we were made very welcome and others joined in when we led a few things. A nice mix of tunes and song ( not all Irish).
When we said we were morris musicians they endeared themselves to us by saying they had had a whole morris side there a few years ago - bloody nutters they were -. Good description of most morris sides.
Its on my list of places I'd like to go back to.

Guest,

You'll be very unlikely to find any music in Achill in April, except at the weekends. It only really kicks off there in high season.
