Doogie lives near St. Jerome, has a studio there. Ronnie is still based in Nashville and still loves the road. They're both from Calumet, Quebec , where men are men and sheep are nervous ! I was raised there as well (oh oh !) and was inspired to get into thumbpicking by watching Doogie up close when I was a kid, and he used to come around to visit family. Still has a White Falcon and umpteen other guitars, and can still play the hell outta them.

I remember well when Doogie Trineer was playing in and around Montreal. He played with Ronnie Prophet for awhile as I recall. Always remember that big White Falcon Gretsch that he played so well. He was one of the great players from the 50's and 60's that made Montreal their base. Others I recall would be Ronnie Prophet, fiddler Paul Menard, Ruthie and Bernie McLean, Scottie Stevenson and others whose names elude me at this time.

The Baron was one of the most impressive singers that I ever heard.
He had an incredible range. I became acquainted with his music thru my cousin Doogie Trineer, guitar-man, who had worked with Dick in Maine in the 50's, around the time of 'Duke and the Swingbillies'

Interesting you should mention this fellow's name. We used to watch to his tv show way back in the mid fifties. It was being broadcast from Burlington Vermont I believe. We were in Chambly (south of Montreal). I was just learning guitar and country music at the time. He did indeed have a terrific voice and made me work even harder learning the trade.

On this day in 1932, Maine's own Dick Curless, (A tombstone every mile) was born in northern Maine. He was 18 when I first met him. Man, what a voice! Real nice guy too. We did a show at the Boothbay railway museum back in about 1982 and some rat bastard ran off with the till. We never did get paid.
