Subject: New Protest Parody of King of the Road
From: Charley Noble
Date: 10 Apr 02 - 11:13 AM

A friend from Michigan sent me this new protest song; she's too shy to post it on Mudcat herself:

GOVERNMENT FOR SALE OR RENT
(New lyrics by George Pillsbury to "King of the Road")

Government for sale or rent, billionaires for president!
Elections on the auction block, buying access like a stock it's a
Money game played by a few, we've got a
Lot more of it than we knew but these
Men of means, what a sweet scheme,
The big money role.

Soft money donors pacts, buying ads to launch their attacks,
Promising to lower the tax,
So when they win their donor friends get all their dough back its just a
Little bitty of win pro-quo;
Makes those campaign contributions flow for those
Men of means, what a sweet scheme
For big money roll.

Every election in every town
Candidates ride on the money-go-round
Dialing for dollars, digging for dough
The more they get, the more they forget what they're there for

It's government for sale or rent, billionaires etc.......
Big money role

Hey, special interest, what's your interest in me?
Thousand bucks for a dinner for two, your spouse gets in free;
Five grand I'll shake your hand and share a cigar
Hundred thou we're talking now, I write you a law;

My government for sale or rent, billionaires for president;
Election on the auction block, buying access like a stock;
Oh, yeah, democracy is on the ropes where
Money counts more than our votes;
We need elections free and clean from that
Big money road,,,, Get off that
Big money road....I said that
Big money road.

I know one-- "King of the Pimps"...written 40 years ago by two friends. But it is TOTALLY offensive. Clever... but not for public publication. It has a theme similar to Bob the Postman's beginning, then .... never mind... sorry...
