Subject: RE: help me name this wooden percussion inst From: GUEST,Lavengro Date: 22 Mar 13 - 03:25 PM @Raggyarse Why put effort into commenting if you are not even going to try and help someone making a sincere request? Any musician who has a cheap shot at someone based on what instrument that person plays rather than the skill they bring to playing it needs to take a look in the mirror. Clearly whatever instrument you play is further up your own imaginary instrument hierarchy. Good for you. I hope you get similar help when you ask for it next. |

Subject: RE: help me name this wooden percussion inst From: GUEST,Lavengro Date: 22 Mar 13 - 06:42 AM @Roger the Skiffler You ought to invest in one of those zydeco washboard ties as your travelling instrument? Spiffy too :) |
Subject: RE: help me name this wooden percussion inst From: Dead Horse Date: 22 Mar 13 - 06:34 AM The washboard is not used in any cajun music that I have heard. You must mean zydeco. |
Subject: RE: help me name this wooden percussion inst From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 22 Mar 13 - 06:33 AM I've got one too for when I can't take the Washboard of Mass Destruction (eg to Greece). It is indeed a guiro. RtS |
Subject: RE: help me name this wooden percussion inst From: Manitas_at_home Date: 22 Mar 13 - 04:13 AM I used to have one of these and it was, indeed, a guiro. I believe it was supposed to symbolise a fish. |

Subject: help me name this wooden percussion inst From: GUEST,Susan-Marie minus my cookie Date: 21 Mar 13 - 09:42 PM A few years ago I bought a small wooden percussion instrument that I need to replace, but I don't know what it's called. It was about 9 inches long, a hollow wooden tube with ridges cut into its outer surface. I slid a wooden stick across the ridges to produce a sound like a small washboard (I used it in Cajun music). I've found carved wooden toads and crickets but their sound isn't as much like a washboard. Thoughts? |
