On bbc's Mudcat Resources site, look under Photos, then Events to find the pictoral evidence of the historic meeting of catspaw49 & Dave Swan. Rumor has it, a good time was had by both (all three, if you count Cleigh!)

all I can say bbc - 'Spaw opened "the door" in the tavern the other night....despite the fact someone had boarded it over for the winter....it wasn't pretty...

I do love the one of Cleigh perched in the middle of the ambulance's hood. Imagine the fright, looking in the rear view and seeing THAT hood ornament.

I have to ask this: 'Spaw, did you tell Karen about Dave's impending visit? Or did you, as is in your DNA, not tell her and coincide Dave's visit with her return home from work, her pulling up in front of the house with a FD rescue vehicle sitting out front and not knowing what to expect? If in fact you did NOT do this, don't even try to convince me that it didn't cross your mind!

What a great pair of blokes! And I just get envier and envier that all you 'Catters are getting to meet each other and I've still only met two (Alison and Alan of Oz) and that was over a year ago and only a very brief chat.

Oh well...

As to the Great Truck 'n' Roll swindle - I sent my pictorial missive off about a week ago. I hope it arrived not too soon and not too late - in fact I hope it just arrives.

I spun a (pretty weak) story about having met this really nice guy standing next to a fire truck (I've been worrying because PJ/La Swanna said it was an ambulance in another thread, but now I know it was really a bit of both) near the beach here in Newcastle, Oz and he was fretting about how worried his boss would be because he had taken a wrong turn and ended on a container ship headed for Oz. So I said I would write to his boss to reassure him that Dave was ok and I added that he seemed like a really genuine sort of person, really Fair Dinkum (the highest Oz compliment you can get) and I wanted to persuade the boss not to do anything drastic.

I am sure that, given the chance to participate in another similar swindle, I could make up a better story - but there it is.

Bill, I think there's a real market for your after-market re-engineering of logos and hood ornaments. You're just what the fire service needs. If we can get large enough castings of rear facing animals with variable orifices,we can revolutionize the siren market. You check with engineering, I'll talk to marketing. zowee!! Lions & Tigers & Bears-oh my!.....& hippos & wombats & shrews...

(I knew a guy who drove an ambulance once...and since I lived on a major street just north of the hospital, he would zoom by 'playing' the siren with weird warbles...at any time of the day or night!!..If he'd had varible pitch animals, I'd never have gotten any sleep..*grin*)
