Noah's Ark

No-ah built an ark both long and wide
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
He brought two ani-mals of ev'ry kind
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
they say he laid them out in pairs
Rat-tle-snakes and the po-lar bears
Just the kind of kritters for to make_you say_your pray'rs
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?

He _ strung them all out in a line
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
Croc-o-dile and the por-cu-pine
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
The mon-key and the kan-ge-roo
The ti-ger and the tom-cat too
'Twas a great-er show than the Lon-don zoo
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?

There were birds and bugs and bum-ble bees
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
And bit-ing skeeters and sand-y fleas
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
The li-ons from their jun-gle lairs
the chipmunk, the 'coon and_the lit-tle hares
They had a great time work-in their_grub on shares
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?

And _ when he got them all on board
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
the_guinea-pig squeeled and_the Un-i-corn rear'd
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?
the screech of_the parrot and_the grunt of_the sow
The howl_of_the wolf and_the bell-ow of_the cow
Old No-ah would shin_up the mast to_get out_of the_row
But Great Cre-a-tion how'd he get them in?

NOAH'S ARK

1
Old Noah he built himself an ark,
There's one wide river to cross!
He built it all of hickory bark,
There's one wide river to cross!

Chorus:
There's one wide river,
and that wide river is Jordan,
There's one wide river,
There's one wide river to cross!

2
The animals went in one by one,
There's one wide river to cross!
And Japhet with a big bass drum,
There's one wide river to cross!
3
The animals went in two by two,
There's one wide river to cross!
The Elephant and the Kangaroo,
There's one wide river to cross!
4
The animals went in three by three,
There's one wide river to cross!
The Hippopotamus and the Bumblebee,
There's one wide river to cross!
5
The animals went in fives by fives,
There's one wide river to cross!
Shem, Ham, and Japhet, and their wives,
There's one wide river to cross!
6
And when he found he had no sail,
There's one wide river to cross!
He just ran up his old coat tail,
There's one wide river to cross!
7
And as they talked on this and that,
There's one wide river to cross!
The ark it bumped on Ararat,
There's one wide river to cross!
8
Oh, Mrs. Noah, she got drunk,
There's one wide river to cross!
And kicked the old gentleman out of his bunk,
There's one wide river to cross!
9
Oh, Noah, he went on a spree,
There's one wide river to cross!
And banished Ham to Afrikee,
There's one wide river to cross!
10
Perhaps you think there's another verse,
There's one wide river to cross!
But there aint!

p. 3, with musical score, 6/8, Gilbert Clifford Noble, ed., 1911, "The Most Popular Plantation Songs," Hinds, Noble & Eldridge, Publi
shers, NYC.

? All that bold lettering not intentional.

The version from Noble lacks the 'fours.' See post by Reiver2, thread 109583- One more river

The animals came in four by four
There's etc.
Old Noah got mad and hollered for more
There's etc.

Here's another version of "Noah's Ark" similar to what's above but set to the tune of "Johnny Comes Marching Home" from Souvenir Song Book, Canada Steamship Lines, circa 1920, p. 24:

Oh, Mr. Noah, he built an ark,
Huroo! Hurrah!
Oh, Mr. Noah, he built an ark,
Huroo! Hurrah!
Oh, Mr. Noah, he built an ark,
And covered it over with hickory bark,
And we'll feel gay
When Noah comes sailing home!

The animals went in two by two...etc.
The bumblebee and the kangaroo...etc.

The animals went in three by three...
The lion, the tiger, and the chimpanzee...

The animals went in four by four...
The zebra, rhinoceros and bib boar...

The animals went in five by five...
Some almost dead but all were alive...

The animals went in six by six...
(verse missing)

The animals went in seven by seven...
Said the flea to the elephants, "Who are you shovin'?"

The animals went in ten by ten...
The turkey, the goose and the bantam hen...

The animals went in twenty by twenty...
Then Noah shouted, "That's plenty! That's plenty!"

Then Mrs. Noah, she got in, too,
With Ham, Shem, Japhet, and the rest of the crew...

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

the animals went in 2 by 2-giraffe,the bear and the kangaroo
all were safely stowed away-against that great and fateful day

repeat chorus

whenever you see a rainbow   x3
