Subject: Lyr Add: THE FISHERMAN'S DAY (from The Rapparees)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 06 Apr 13 - 07:43 PM

Here's my attempt at transcribing the lyrics from the podcast. I am uncertain of the place names, especially "Ballyheman" which I spelled phonetically, according to the way it sounds in the recording; I am unable to confirm that such a place exists.

THE FISHERMAN'S DAY
As sung by The Rapparees on their album "Clarity" (2009)

1. I strolled by the shore on a soft summer's evening
Where the sea stirs the sand on a boat's homeward steer.
No more will I follow the call of the ocean,
For the land is my home for the last wheel of years.

CHORUS: Farewell to the sea, to the nets, to the fishes.
No more will I sail far from Cushendun Bay,
For evenin' is driftin' along Ballyheman(?),
And the night takes the light from the fisherman's day.

2. Shadows are sweepin' the green from the glen side.
The salmon are home to their own native stream,
So I take a long pint in the heel of the evening,
And the fish of past will be part of my dreams.

3. And then I have gone and my dreams are forgotten.
Just lay me down here where the sea meets the bay,
And I'll hear winter winds as they roar o'er the garden,
And feel the warm sun on a bright summer's day.

I hear the Rapparees sing:

"And I'll hear winter winds as they roar over Garron"

referring to Garron Point which looks over Cushendun Bay.
