Subject: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: alison Date: 05 Nov 99 - 02:21 AM The other tavern thread was getting long again and I thought Susan A-R started something interesting Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #16 From: Susan A-R Date: 04-Nov-99 - 10:44 PM I'm up for a bit of smoked mullett and avocado and beer. Say MMario, where DID those brownies come from? Not the back yard I hope.
S'paw's at the door again,
Mick's in the kitchen
Your turn. Anyone want to write the verses for the rest of the week? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Bert Date: 05 Nov 99 - 10:42 AM The home computer users are the only ones that's here, and all the worker lurkers are home, crying in their beer But they'll be back the first thing Monday Don't you ever fear, and it's Saturday in The Mudcat Tavern |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Alice Date: 05 Nov 99 - 02:07 PM I don't have another verse, but since the jokes on Americans thread is too long, I will add here this one that I just found: Two North Dakotans decided to go ice fishing and so got their gear and went out to fish. After almost the whole day with not even a bite, they see some one on a snowmobile going by with a sleigh full of fish. The one turns to the other and says "See, I told you we should have been trolling". |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Áine Date: 05 Nov 99 - 02:16 PM Here's my small contribution to the Tavern Anthem: Áine's stirring up her chili and as the cauldron boils, She casts a spell on HFA For spoiling Max's toils She smells and tastes and cackles (Mick salivates again) and it's Saturday in The Mudcat Tavern

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Áine Date: 05 Nov 99 - 03:30 PM OK -- I want to know who's written/writing the tune to this classic? I vote for someone to record this and send it to Max for broadcast on next Wednesday's MCR show. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Nov 99 - 08:00 PM Geezis..........poetry? This place is turnin' into a BAD coffeehouse..........And where's the door...the virtual one....somebody board that sucker up again? MARIO???? ....And where's the bar?......Where's the patio and the flamingos?........Man its gettin' real hard to find your way around the joint.........like bein' in that jive-ass hotel.......just bring me a drink over here and I'll......What is this crap on the floor.....GEEZIS..Can someone clean up after the Yak that seems to have passed through.......uh,huh...too busy with the verse huh?........I gotta' go....This place is gettin' weird...HOLY KEYRICED!!! ....There's a monster pile of shells out here gang.......uh, huh.......workin' the rhymes huh?.....................oy..................... Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Big Mick Date: 05 Nov 99 - 08:20 PM The door flies open and the biggest damn Mick in this village comes stridin' across the floor..........Aw'right, yiz bowsies, up with the lot of ya. Let's clean this joint up, cause the Big Mick is cookin'. Been a little rough, but visitin' with 'Spaw has done the world of good.......HEY, GIT THOSE CRITTERS AWAY FROM THE CORNER TABLE.....I am going to serve THE FAIR ONE over there by candlelight............right after we sing a duet together.......huh? Bite me, Lagerphone Boy, we are going to sing and I will take my chances on the stick..LOL...What?..........the menu?...........Well, I think we will start out with Smoked Salmon Parcels tied with Chives. For the first course we will move on to Fresh Asparagus in Herb Flower Crepes.......The crepes? Well you make your own, of course. In fact, making the crepes is what takes all the time on this course. We will be making these with Blue borage flowers because they really look great, but you can also use the flowers from almost any of the herbs. Once done, cook the asparagus spears for about 5 minutes in salted boiling water, just until tender. Run them under cold water to stop the cooking process and drain. Take a crepe and put it on the plate, flower side down. Place 4 spears in it, and fold it over the top, thus revealing the flowers. A little melted butter and decorate with the leftover borage blossoms. Now we move on to a Light Prawn Soup. Hey Susan, do me a favor and run down to the natural food store for me. I need some Dillisk, they will have it dried........What? It is a seaweed that grows along the coast of Ireland, and it puts a great taste in the soup. Now for the next course. How does Smoked-Pheasant Roulade with Rosemary Cream Sauce sound, FAIR ONE? Now be sure and save a little room for the Cheesecake with Raspberry Coulis. Yep, the old Mick is feeling a bit better, looks like I will survive. Let's have a friggin' party. Someone start shuckin' the oysters........................ |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Alice Date: 05 Nov 99 - 08:49 PM what a relief.... it's good to see you back in the land of the breathing (although we're not sure about Cleigh). Take it easy, and remember, keep that vaporizer going. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Mbo Date: 05 Nov 99 - 09:36 PM So, this is the famous Mudcat Tavern? This is my first time in this joint. Good to see you back in action, Mick! I do have a bit of a feeling that I have no idea what you all are talking about...I guess I just haven't deciphered the "Mudflap" yet. After a week of drawing skulls and making smiling clay heads (make that "Cleigh the Phrenological head") it's good to be here on Friday night. While Mick making the grub, anyone interested in singing a song? How about my latest song "It Takes 45 Muscles In Your Face To Smile (But Only 5 To Reach Out And Smack Someone On The Back Of The Head)" --Mbo (feeling a bit mad after me usual 90 mile Friday drive) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Susan A-R Date: 05 Nov 99 - 09:39 PM They tried to sell me nori, but I rummaged a bit and found dulce. Hope that's closer. No Dillisk. I also have three fine crepe pans here. Lemme at em. S'paw, Don't you know the difference between poetry and doggerrel?? Get back here or we'll put you in another verse. Now S'paw comes in a bitchin at the door, the pets, the food (Yeaah, the yacks and the flamingos have been getting rather rude) But the man who blows a possum has no right to be a prude And it's Tuesday in the Mudcat Tavern. By the way, the doggerel sort of works to Solidarity Forever/Battle Hymn, whatever, if you tinker a bit with the last line of the melody.

North porch is northern hemisphere, it's a bit nnippy out there right now, but there is still some foliage to view. south porch is southern hemisphere. I'm not sure what the view is out there....but it's warmer... the door with the warning sign is the "virtual door" which will lead you wherever yu set it for. Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Metchosin Date: 07 Nov 99 - 02:28 PM Metchosin enters the Tavern, tired after floundering about for the last couple of weeks, drags its great ponderous bulk to a corner and beaches itself upon two chairs, immediately starting a conversation with itself.
"Oh dear! …. Why did it come up like that?….all run together and stuff?" Metchosin asks looking dazed and confused
"Because you forgot the little "br" thingies again, you blithering idiot!" Metchosin admonishes itself.
"Oh……….Gee, how come I posted that answer to that question and it didn't show up until about thirty other people had answered and my answer didn't make sense anymore?" asks Metchosin, still looking dazed and confused."
"You fool! What do you expect when you leave the screen up, wander out of the room for half an hour and don't punch Send 'till you return!" says Metchosin, getting exasperated with itself.
"Ahhh I see….But its still not coming up like I sent it," Metchosin whines.
"For the umpteenth time Metchosin! Don't try and get cute and type the "br" thingies twice at the end of a line, once is enough already!"
"Oh, O.K… But those guys were sooo rude to me when I added my two cents worth to that thread," Metchosin blubbers.
"For gawds sakes Metchosin! Slow down and read what's being said, they weren't saying that your rant was too long and unreal, they were talking about something else entirely and to each other, not you," Metchosin admonishes itself again.
"I know how to spell those words, really I do. Did I really spell it like that? Oh I didn't spell it like that, surely! I thought I checked the spelling before I hit the button! oh jeeeez, I must look like an illiterate boob!" Metchosin cringes.
"Look you self centered twerp, nobody cares about your bleeding spelling. It's not a test! There is no Miss Worthington to tell you 'your not very good with your hands, are you my dear'. Stop this whingeing and get on with what you have to say! Substance over form my dear."
"But I'd like to join in on a chat too," pouts Metchosin.
"Just be patient Metchosin, you're still typing at minus twenty while looking at the keyboard and not the screen. You'll understand all the ins and outs of this site…Eventually….I hope," Metchosin trails off, "There, there, have a good belt of single malt instead" says Metchosin, trying to comfort itself.
"A Highland Park, please, please!" Metchosin implores.
"Are you buying?" Metchosin replies to itself indignantly.
"No, I thought you were." Metchosin looks stunned.
"In that case, we'd better make it a Blue." Metchosin, seated on its three ample buttocks, sighs with resignation and stares off into space.

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: annamill Date: 07 Nov 99 - 05:29 PM Well hello everyone!! I'm so sorry I've neglected this wonderful place recently. I've been crazy busy. Hello Darling Mick! I'm so glad you're feeling better. I was very concerned about you. Now don't over do and get sick again, please. Why don't you let someone wait on you for a time? What can I get you while I get myself a T&T? Well, I've signed the 5 year lease for the video store, in spite of Blockbusters big coup. They can't get us, ha ha! We live on a very small peninsula where there is just no room for them. In fact, there is no video store for miles around. I think we'll do great. We'll see. BTW, I haven't discussed this with Sandy and Caroline yet, but I'm hoping to have a nice size folk section in our music CD selection. I start the new position (job ;-) tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous, but I think I'll do well. I can't stay long. I have to get ready for tomorrow. I don't know if I'll be able to write from work. We'll see. I hope so. Finish up this T&T and then I must go. I love you all. Mick, be good and take care please? See you all soon.

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Caitrin Date: 07 Nov 99 - 08:32 PM Hello again, folks. I've gotten addicted to this place already, and I only started visiting a couple of weeks ago. Of course, just reading about Mick's food is reason enough for addiction. Good luck on the job, annap. :) By the way, I hope I'm not being presumptuous by just jumping into conversation here. If I am, do let me know. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Metchosin Date: 07 Nov 99 - 08:54 PM I don't know if you're being presumtuous or not Caitrin, I just jumped into all this about the same time you did, but I by looking at past threads I don'tthink it's a problem. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: WyoWoman Date: 07 Nov 99 - 11:33 PM Not at all a problem. Particularly in the Tavern where everything's so lovely and wacky hardly anybody notices a new wacko. Who's tending bar tonight? Could I get a B&B? I've taken a bit of a chill. I heard a rumor that Dr. Laura and Martha Stewart had been signed as special guests for the Jello wrestling this week. With the Rev. Al Sharpton officiating. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor? WyoWoman |

Eat your heart out Mick.

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: DougR Date: 08 Nov 99 - 07:49 PM Don't anybody around here drink anymore? Poetry is wonderful to drink to. As a matter of fact, I'll drink to it myself. Guess I'll have to help myself though 'cause there doesn't appear to be anybody tending bar in the place. Anybody else while I'm back here? DougR |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: WyoWoman Date: 08 Nov 99 - 11:40 PM Yes, please, Doug. I'll take a B&B and a hug. I'm feeling a bit blue tonight. My sweet old puppy dawg is having surgery this week for a cancerous tumor and the doc says it doesn't look so good for her. She's such a pal to me (13 years) and I just can't stand the thought of her suffering, or of her not being here beside me (where she is at this moment and all moments when I'm in my house). So ... I'll take some loving vibes and a good, stiff drink, see voo play. ww |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: katlaughing Date: 09 Nov 99 - 01:00 AM Oh, WW, never an easy thing, that. My old one passed on this year, right after mom. I am sitting here trying to post whilst holding a cat like a baby. Hey he put hmself there! Guess I should pay attention, but I wanted to stop in for a sec before toddling off to bed. Hi, Doug, how about an amaretto sour, please? Hey, gang, how about a round of aum's for WW's puppy dawg? Thats right, just close yer eyes, no horsing around, I know you guys know how to do this! Now, deep breath, let it out, and hum Aaaaaaahhhh Ooooooooommmmm. Again, while you have your eyes closed, see WW and her puppy surrounded by that healing Light of Mudcat Love and send them your good wishes. Keep it up, gang, that sounds lovely. Now, one last time, then let it go. Let us know, WW, okay? G'nite all. BTW, did Den ever come back for his critter? Last I knew I was 'sposed to be tending, butI lost track! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Alice Date: 09 Nov 99 - 09:23 AM My money's on Dr. Laura... no matter who the challenger is. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: WyoWoman Date: 09 Nov 99 - 09:38 AM I know. That's one tough woman. Martha might just want to decorate her. But when she pulls out the hot glue gun, I think Dr. Laura will put a stop to it right quick. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Roger the skiffler Date: 09 Nov 99 - 10:33 AM I think a quick chorus of "Old Shep" is called for, pass the brandy, kazoo & washboard, and if you have tears to shed, prepare to shed them now. (No connection with two-sheds Jackson BTW). RtS |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Jeri Date: 09 Nov 99 - 03:02 PM Folks - I am unemployed again...YES!!!!! More time for Mudcat, unpacking boxes, and looking for a job - which is terribly hard if you have one. Mick tells me to let you know that if he's not around here much in the next month, it's because he's working his fingers to the bone on a new - whaddya call them, project? But that sounds boring. He's really devoting all his time to digging a hole to Oz. Got the basement cleared of basement-type stuff, and full of picks and shovels. Got a map to Alison's place through the center of the earth. I think he's planning on taking the computer, but he's gonna run out of extension cord and phone line at some point... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: MMario Date: 09 Nov 99 - 03:15 PM too bad he can't just run a line thorugh the north porch to the south porch. MUCH shorter, but most 'puters don't like virtual connections. Which is strange, because very few people can manage virtual connections without 'puters. I'm confusing myself again. Which way was the bar? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Bert Date: 09 Nov 99 - 03:44 PM Metchosin wants a "double single malt"? Pour me one too or should that be "one two"? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Peter T. Date: 09 Nov 99 - 03:55 PM Good luck with your dog, WW, however it goes. It is always hell, you feel guilty whatever happens, even when you try and do what is best for your pet -- some part of you keeps whispering: am I keeping things going for my sake, am I ending things for my sake....If your dog doesn't make it, try planting a tree somewhere nearby in memory. It worked for a friend of mine, who lost a cat that had been her pal for 17 years. She said to me a few days after the little ceremony that it was the only thing that partly filled up the cat-shaped hole in her life, because it was something positive and physical. She was only sorry that she hadn't done it immediately, but waited 4 months. Have a drink, too. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: DougR Date: 09 Nov 99 - 07:20 PM WyoWoman: Sorry to hear about your dog pal. All may not be lost though. Sam, one of my two cats, had a tumor removed that was cancerous. The Vet called with the bad news after surgery, but it turned out that all the bad old cancer cells were contained in the inner part of the tumor and it appeared they had not yet spread. That was three years ago, and Sam, who is now 17 years old is purring right along. I hope you get good news too, but 'till then, here is that drink you ordered. Sorry to be late. You ordered it yesterday but service around here is a bit slow anyway. DougR |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Caitrin Date: 09 Nov 99 - 07:22 PM While we're pouring drinks, I'd like a mountain dew. Under age, ya know. I recently lost my cat of ten years, Lotus, to feline leukemia. We had to have her put down, and we did much the same thing as the tree, only it's a rosebush. It really does help. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: Metchosin Date: 09 Nov 99 - 07:35 PM Hi Bert, I'm only drinking beer by the glass right now. My "better half"'s not with me at present. He has only got me to type one posting for him (he's more computer phobic and inept than I am) re a rant about Rosewood, but I felt I owed it to him, seeing he has only seen the back of my head for 2 weeks. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: TheMuse Date: 09 Nov 99 - 10:20 PM WW - I'm sorry to hear about you pooch pal. I hope everything turns out ok. Pets are the best "people" aren't they?? I have two cats that are my "kids" and have been spoiled for 13 years. Last spring one of them had to have radiation treatment for a thyroid tumor. SHe is fine now and has taken over as head of the household again but I was one worried Mom for a couple tough weeks while she was in isolation. Give your puppy a hug for me. The Muse |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern #17 From: WyoWoman Date: 10 Nov 99 - 12:26 AM Thanks, all. I'm much afraid it's spread, but she seems to be feeling pretty spry so far, so ... I'm just keeping my fingerzntoez crossed. And indulging her every wish! She hasn't had so many little tidbits from the table in her entire life. She's probably going to get suspicious pretty soon..."Hey, woman. Wha'zup with all these little pieces of meat? And why are you giving me ALL the pizza crust? You're acting like I'm sick or something..." Anyway, thanks for your good thoughts. I would very much like a glass of Mr. Jameson's finest, please Sir DougR. The B&B was nice, but that *was* yesterday... ww
