Subject: RE: Genticorum - Manchester From: SteveMansfield Date: 04 Apr 13 - 01:40 PM The RNCM do the occasional folk concert, two or three a year - they had the mighty Old Dance School last October, and we've seen a few other good acts there down the years ( a great night with Michael O Suillebhean many years ago when the Hulme crescents were stil standing was a particular favourite). It's a decent venue - those 'purists' who think folk music should only be heard in the smelly back rooms of run-down pubs and has no place in concert halls would hate it, but it's of a size and layout where a good act can generate a decent atmosphere. (To give you an idea of my benchmarks I hate the sterility of the Bridgewater Hall, and think Buxton Opera House is a pretty much perfect venue). Get on the RNCM mailing list via their website, they send out PDF brochures every couple of months and seem very well behaved about only using your address for that purpose. |
Subject: Genticorum - Manchester From: GUEST,GUEST - ManchesterFolky Date: 04 Apr 13 - 09:29 AM I've just noticed the awesome French-Canadian band are playing at the Royal Northern College of Music in June. How much other folk stuff are they doing? Has anyone seen a show there before? If you've not seen Genticorum before, they are excellent.
