Got a PM (not from Ebbie) re my "curt" post above. Twas not meant to be. The design is for ease erection at a reasonable price without a highly skilled labour force. The ease of demolition just happened to happen due to the nature of one of the components... strong yet brittle and subject to fracture by a simple tool. In the first video, two simple tools are employed in the demolition.

In any case. The lad should not have been doing what he did. The last bit could have easily been accomplished thru the use of as simple as a winch for all to stand clear. It makes good video even if it upsets me on acconta I still gotta watch. That what pays You Tube's bills.

Ebbie, I'm about astonished at your response. That thing came down just as any sane person would have expected, in what was effectively an explosion of jumbled massively heavy materials. That guy is extremely lucky to be alive, and didn't show a glimmer of awareness of the fact.

Each one of the guys specifically says they haven't done or seen this done before.

The upright (concrete?) boards at the base of the silo seem to indicate that they are installed that way in order to facilitate demolition. My family built several silos over the years and it seems to be a common practice.

A silo inherently is not a heavy construction- it is the volume and the height coming down that could kill.

I agree that all of them should have been wearing helmets and safety glasses.

#1. They saved hundreds of dollars by doing it themselves. It cost them nothing.
