Subject: 43 Arrangemnts/O'Carolan Tunes/Autoharp From: GUEST,GrandMary4 Date: 11 Apr 13 - 07:58 PM This isn't really a tune request; I apologize, but I didn't know what else to call it. I am looking for this book: Forty Three Arrangements of O'Carolan Tunes for Diatonic Autoharp by Stephen Young Spiral-bound | Pub. Date: 1991. Would anyone know where I might search? (Of course I did a general internet search already.) Thanks! |

However, if you read music, you can find the melodies for O'Carolan's work in "O'Neill's Music of Ireland." (At one time that was online for free.) If not, then Amazon is selling Sylvia Woods' harp book with works of O'Carolan. That book has melody, bass part and chords. Another source for you might be contemplator.com, which has MIDI's and a few gif files of O'Carolan's work. It would be handy to have MIDI software on your computer to get the most music from that (and other) music sites. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: 43 Arrangemnts/O'Carolan Tunes/Autoharp From: GUEST,MLAG fan Date: 13 Apr 13 - 09:48 AM Steven Young is listed as being 3rd place winner at the 1994 Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering. you might try the MLAG folks to see if they have any contact information for him. Many of the participants, award winners and workshop performers, have self-published books, and what you are looking for sounds like one of those. If the particular book you want is not available, perhaps the Walters or someone else in the MLAG world can recommend another source for Carolan tunes for autoharp. I'm convinced if there is anything to be known about autoharps, MLAG people are where that information is to be found. Guitar tab doesn't do anything for autoharp players - chromatic or diatonic. Easy to read melody line and clear chords are what is needed. |
